We've been mixed up with Burnley again as apparently he came through their academy..... https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/9252760/john-stones-trolled-over-new-mum-lover/
No. None. It is exactly what his manager (and also his club manager) expects him to do. He had a crap game but the third goal wasn’t his doing, yes it was a risky pass but one he’s told to make. The issue was Barkley not being good enough to lay off a simple ten yard pass with his wrong foot - something I’d expect any lower league central midfielder to be able to achieve 99 times out of a hundred
Front page news in The Sun and inside it mentions his ex-girlfriend who's been with him since his days in Burnley academy....
On the bench in the game against Switzerland. Callum Wilson goal ruled out by VAR. Score is 0-0. Extra time being played.
Anyone else notice today, mistakes made by certain England players today attracted little or no comment by Martin Tyler. Not defending Stones for his mistakes the other night but the comments and analysts of his mistakes or perceived mistakes were relentless. Bit of balance here required.
He's from Barnsley Academy so fair game. Nobody played well against the Dutch Stones was just the unfortunate one whose mistakes got punished. Has De Bryune said if he played the pass that he played to Barkley in a City game they'd be no problem the midfielder receiving it would deal with it. He's been hung out to dry by Southgate who says he was fatigued if thats true why was he not substituted.
People giving Stones a hard time need to have a word with themselves. How terribly English / Daily Mirrorish to have to have a fall guy. Yet it's in a tournament at the end of the season where none of the players really played well, and several made very basic mistakes. I'd sooner watch Stones playing the ball out of defence and making the odd mistake, than watch Phil Jones, Smalling etc, clog it as high and as far as possible. Stones is a cultured player, with great skill. His stats don't lie - fantastic on pass completion and possession. Like all players he will make mistakes. Sickens me that people want to drag him down, especially when the end result could be a return to hoofball. Stones and Maguire are England's best central defenders. Amazing how Maguire seems to currently have cult hero status, and Stones now the one folks want to drag down. Hope for Maguire's sake he never makes a mistake, because England fans are so unforgiving, it's untrue.
Ok, I've been rooting for John Stones since he was a Barnsley player. I want him to do well. I think my posting history shows I'm always looking to give support to players. But. I wouldn't currently pick Stones for England. He makes far too many bad errors. He's not alone in that but he does. It's been a thread that runs through his career to date. To point it out isn't looking to drag him down. It isn't that he comes from little old Barnsley academy. Neither he or us is being picked on. He makes a lot of mistakes. That's the top and bottom of it.
Thought the Stones mistakes were punished by a very good Dutch side particularly their midfield who made ours look a league below . Thought Southgate should have played Stones today and not scapegoated him
They've changed to online version to Barnsley... https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/9252760/john-stones-trolled-over-new-mum-lover/
I think that’s very harsh. He’s barely put a foot wrong in the last 2 seasons. Before he got injured him & Laporte were incredible this season & it was the same the season before with him & Otamendi before getting injured in the new year. And he had a superb World Cup in between. In fact Thursday nights probably the first bad game he’s had in over 2 years since Guardiola’s first season at City. Before that I’d agree with you. His first season at City & last one at Everton had plenty of dodgy moments
His error the other night wasn’t just a bad moment. It was a terrible bit of play. I can understand why he’s been left out. He doesn’t learn from his mistakes for all the great stuff he can do he lets himself down with some really basic errors at times. (I’m a massive fan of his btw)
But he has learned from his mistakes. He’s had 2 excellent seasons & barely put a foot wrong until the other day. If these times are once every 2 years then he’s going to have a great career
All players have a bad patch in their careers. Stones is no exception. I think the side is still learning to play this way under Southgate. We still have the best England team we've had in a long while. The Netherlands have a great team that has come up through Ajax & they beat us fair & square. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. Not sure if we are ready to play our football against the best, but to win something we probably need to be able to do it. Premier League money & schedules don't help. I still think Stones will be a great player when he hangs up his boots in 8 years time at international level. I will keep on supporting him, as he is a great footballer, but he has moved to a new arena & will make mistakes. All the best have done & will do.
Because he's in a multi billion pound squad with very serious international competition, in which he still manages to hold his own. Pep did pick him regularly, but when one player goes out of the side for whatever reason (injury, being dropped), they have one hell of a battle to get back in.
Thing is though, over the last 2 games Maguire did make mistakes, as did Walker, Stirling and others.
