It's because people up and down the country are cancelling their licenses and they want to make up the shortfall. Don't need a license for Netflix and Prime.
BBC are always moaning about funding, for me its time they were forced into the real world and pay their way. The licence fee funding is from a time long gone, yes they make a few good programmes but so do others and you can choose whether you want to pay for them.
I get the goons around every 6 months or so. "Can we come in and inspect the premises?" "No." End of interaction.
great idea and move by him as far as I can see, surely must lose him more votes than it will gain him and get rid of his leadership bid forever
I just think it should be free to all over 75s regardless of income, like gravy said I do believe it is in part due to approx 3 million households who dont pay.
True, but yet they pay Johnathan Woss 6 million a year, Graham Norton 4.5 and lineker a eye watering amount.
It ought to be pointed out that the free licence thing was dumped on the BBC by the Government when they decided they couldn't afford it anymore. It was a Government policy, they paid for it, then passed those costs onto the BBC when they'd had enough.
Learn something everyday, I just thought the BBC waivered it for the old uns as a thankyou/ we know you have paid it for many years. Never knew the tax payer funded it. Maybe the media need to change the headlines to " Goverment ends free TV licence"
The decision is not in itself unreasonable. There are plenty of reasonably-off pensioners who are probably doing better than many young folk these days. Those who draw pension credit will still get a freebie. But the big problem here is that you will have possibly millions of pensioners over 75 who have not bought a licence in years and will not be geared up to. Do the government and/or the Beeb really want to see a procession of oldies being proceeded against for use without a licence because they didn't realise they will now have to have one? Trouble ahead!
Why would it do that? His electorate to become Prime Minister is 120,000 Tory Members. The other 60 odd million people in the Country are irrelevant - they don't have a vote. I would it would be quite a vote winner among his electorate.
