Manchester United top, Leeds and Millwall second, then Leicester, then Chelsea, then West Ham, then us, joint with Man City and Middlesboro.... Now I know it’s a minority of fans, but this is ridiculous. I am so ashamed of my club this morning. More Manchester United fans are arrested for football racism than any other club http://news.sky.com/story/more-manc...-football-racism-than-any-other-club-11743651
As far as I'm aware there are no racism issues within the club so in that case it's the so called supporters youre disgusted with and rightly so. A long way to go before the colour of someone's skin ceases to be an issue which is why any initiatives within football should be fully supported Good that arrests are being made though and it's not just being swept under the carpet. Millwall's offer of a course seems to be a good one too, not that it's as simple as that but it might get some unthinking people to think just a little bit.
I hear racist comments 4-5 times per season in my seat in the Ponty. I've called out the culprits and spoken to stewards to no effect. Once the response was 'yeah, I'm racist, so what?'. There's some arguments you're never going to win.
I’m not sure what the club’s position is regarding those arrested and prosecuted. I hope and indeed expect that they are banned from Oakwell
Yes you’re right, it’s the supporters I’m disgusted with, and a minority at that. But they have still tarnished the name of my beloved club.
I did read the results of some research the other week that suggested racist, particularly Islamophobic, incidents at Liverpool fell significantly after they signed Salah and he became an hero to the crowd.
Still can’t believe in 2019, people think the way that they do. It’s sad really more than anything and unfortunately racism in society is on the increase. I’m not sure BFC or any of the clubs can do much more than they do, when it’s a society issue more than anything. I will always call out racists when I hear it, wherever I do but I’m hearing it more and more every day. It’s such a shame because we’ve been world leaders in anti racism measures for the last couple of decades.
Racism is abhorent and even one occurance is too many, but 10 arrests in 4 years isn't exactly a pandemic. That equates to 184 league matches, so one person is arrested every 18.4 games, not defending it in any way but just highlighting the fact that its not "all the time".
Report says that figures have increased 6 years in a row, hopefully that's because more decent people are calling this **** out and it's it's actually getting dealt with.
On becoming middle aged I moved to the east stand but used to sit in the Ponte. I can honestly say that in my 30+ years as a reds fan I’ve only heard it once and the bloke was shouted down by other fans. I don't see us as a racist club and hopefully nor does the rest of the world.
But we were one of the first clubs to have a black manager and have had players of different ethnicities for a long time.
"Kick It Out says the number of reports of abuse it has received has increased for six years in a row" Sorry, should have clarified I meant reporting figures. My point is that I'm glad it's getting reported more, when crimes go unreported you have no chance of fixing the problem.
Racists are thick as pig shít... if we had Sol Campbell as boss and he took us to the champions league with Mbappé up front they wouldn't say owt but you can bet your life the minute results go south they'd be on their backs. It's when it suits and sums up their level of intelligence.
Disgraceful that a club our size makes the list. Not surprising though really, if you keep your ears open at games.
Or is it that we are near top of the league for actually doing something about racism? It would be easy to do nothing, arrest nobody and bury our heads in the sand.
If you think there’s not a problem with racism with a small amount of our contingent you’re totally in denial.
