Just as long as we hear the words: “We will also retain a significant interest in the future of the player”. Then I will sleep soundly tonight..
You have to feel for poor old Brighton in all this. They paid £5m* for the third best defender in L1 and if they'd have held their nerve they could have got #1 and #2 for the same outlay. *allegedly Am very disillusioned. I've been a supporter of the policy but it just works too well (if that is possible). They blossom at the same time, we sell at the same time, we struggle for a while whilst the new batch beds in, then they thrive and blossom ......... at the same time. Rinse. Repeat.
Just so long as we all bought our season tickets early. 10,000 or thereabouts. The club has a monopoly over us poor suckers, we just can't say no but then we have to suffer their shenanigans. As someone has said, rinse and repeat !
Totally agree, now I know he ain't no Harry Maguire atm, but if old big head is valued at 70 million then surely pinnock is 8_ 10 million, unless if its written in his contract somewhere
Shows a lack of ambition if true in Ethan. I'd be wanting a bigger Championship/ newly promoted or struggling Premiership club personally.
I take it back mate if we end up selling both Lindsay AND Pinnock this window whilst also losing Davies then it shows the veil is starting to slip ever so slightly on our owners.
I decided against it to see how the new owners played the summer I remain unconvinced. Actually, at least I can appreciate their model now. We will yo-yo between L1 and Championship I reckon because they clearly don’t want to commit any of their own cash. Which is fair enough, but disappointing, considering they have bucketloads
Suppose this is why they have boat loads of cash. Shame really, same as the last time we got promoted but the only shining light this time around is were doing it in the summer. Oh and these players have 12 months on their deals opposed to the other having 6 months, and the fees are similar. Strange one
If he won't sign get rid. I don't blame him, he's seen his mate get more money. Remember you only look at 10 years to make money in a career then it's a case of what do I do now. That's life in football now get used to it. Either get a season ticket and suck it and see or find a new hobby. You could do worse and support a local non league team. I'd rather the club sell now and get a replacement tied up than sell in January then scrape the barrel finding a quick fix. Until our beloved club gets 20 thousand plus a week through turnstiles nothing will change. Rich business men don't stay rich buying a football club and spending stupid amounts on transfers unless you've got an oilwell in your back garden or your into selling vast amounts of cocaine. Replacements will be coming.
But also remember our beloved owners are sniffing around other clubs to buy so maybe they're cashing up ready to leave.
I can’t understand why anyone is surprised or kicking off. Surely deep down you all knew Pinnock, Lindsay & Davies were going to go? I was 99% sure they would when I renewed & I don’t believe many of you thought different deep down. We’ve heard repeatedly that players with a market value who have a year left who won’t sign new contracts will be sold. We’ve also been told by the owners that they won’t do anything crazy so we know we aren’t going to offer players the contracts they can get elsewhere so that means we know they’ll be sold. We all know the contracts that get handed out for our better players when they leave us. Hourihane on anywhere between 25 & 30k, Winnall on about 18k, Bree on similar, Watkins on about 15k. We rarely go above 5k. We can’t compete. Other clubs know it. Jay’s right in that it means unless there’s a bidding war we won’t get big fees for any of the players & that’s unfortunate. I don’t like the situation but what I will say is selling him now is the best thing for us, it’s well before the seasons starts, it gives us the chance to sign a replacement who can have a full pre-season with us. Worst case scenario would’ve been him leaving on deadline day or in January for an even smaller fee. The next interesting situation will be Thiam. With only a year left logic would say he’ll either sign a new deal or be flogged within a couple of weeks. I’d also say that Lindsay, Pinnock & anyone else we sell who aren’t local deserve no stick at all for going. They didn’t come here out of love for Barnsley, they came to earn more money & further their careers. Young lads loving hundreds of miles away from their family & friends. Let’s not pretend they’ve done the dirty on us. They’ve done good jobs for us & we’ve made profits on them. They’ve not left us in the **** in January or after the season starts. Good luck to them
Same situation would have occurred if we d stayed in league 1. I had hoped that by going up we might have persuaded at least one of our back three to stay.. Oh well. **** happens
Id imagine Kieffer isn't far off leaving us too, no sign of him signing a new contract. Millwall for 3 million. Imagine the scenes.
