Millwall and Brentford outmuscling us when in the same league is ridiculous. What’s the point in owners if they aren’t willing to fund any aspect of the club? What do they do other than take profit if we happen to make it? Might as well be fan owned.
Its so disheartening isn't it. Be interesting to hear from the club on this matter. One of the main concerns I had during the promotion race was if we didn't get promotion we would have all this talent tore away from us. I was genuinely excited to see how theyd get on together in another shot at the league. Wouldn't have thought this was going to happen. It has made my mind up on the journey tomorrow night now though, so every cloud.
Adam Oxley (@adam3oxley) Tweeted: Understand reports linking #BarnsleyFC centre half Ethan Pinnock with a move to Brentford are accurate. Another key piece of the 2018/19 jigsaw on the move, which is a sign of just how well the Reds did last season. @footballheaven Not good news. Dreading my son coming home from school!
To offer some perspective than just lambasting the owners: The fee is significantly more than 3m with add ons as well Discussions with Pinnock have been ongoing for months. Offering to make him both the highest paid player and Captain. This was taken into consideration. ‘Only Brentford’ - how Wednesday do we want to sound exactly? They’ve been in the Championship for years, are seen as a similar club to us in that they buy players, improve them and move them on for a profit. Also remember their new ground is going to be small in comparison to most as the Chairman there is focussed on tv money not season ticket sales to bankrolling the club to get the the Premiership is HIS business model not ours. We’re sticking to the model of no new deal, sold. We’ve all seen it. It’s worked so far. Yes Pinnock is Class, but I have full faith that he’ll be replaced adequately with a player we’ll no doubt sell for a profit in the future. Gutted that Pinnock is going more than losing Lindsay or Davies. He was outstanding last season, he really was but he’s probably going to go and earn 15-20k a week and I can’t begrudge him that simply because we won’t pay it.
How insulting is it when they say stuff like that. "Just how well the reds did last season" Aye but players who didn't have anywhere near the year they had are going for a hell of a lot more.
Not sure what more club could have done tbh apart from offer him silly money to stay which is against our policy. Been offered chance to be highest paid in club and wouldnt take it so board have made tough choice to sell him. Yes he is a great player but we cant be taken for ransom by him and his agent. Sell him, reinvest and move on.
I think this is a disaster. It is also an indictment of the flawed business plan that the club have place. It is no good building a team of players that we cannot keep hold of. We will never progress. We will spend around a third of the money on a Player that will take 6 to 12 months to develop. That is time we don't have. If that player doesn't develop we have a flop on our hands, if he does develop then he too will be sold. As someone else said rinse and repeat, except by that time will have been relegated again. If I was stendel today the only thing I will be doing is Google in Lufthansa flights.
