. . . the wealth of Brentfords owners, or how much debt they're prepared to accrue in order to progress. Are Brentford the smallest club we've ever sold our best player to?
He was our player of the year last season. Not a Sheffield type post at all. A simple question. If you read my posts regularly you'll know I don't get involved in all that crap. We usually sell our players to bigger clubs. Brentford aren't a big club by any stretch of the imagination.
Arjan DeZeeuw ,Wigan Neil Redfearn , Charlton. Eric Winstanley ,Chesterfield David Speedie , Darlington Arguably.
Top two went to the premier league. Winny was before my time, so dunno about that one. Didn't speedy drop down a division to go to Darlington?
Speedie was no more than a promising youngster with not many 1st team appearances. Also, sold for reasons other than football ability.
As good as Speedie turned out to be, we didn't play him so he couldn't really be considered our best player. Although whenever I saw him he looked great so really don't know what was going on there.
Ronnie to Belenenses. Paul Futcher to Grimsby. Or were they on free transfers? Bobby Doyle to Peterborough.
Yes. Speedie wasn't our best player either. There was little to suggest he would become the player he did.
Obviously, and you could see he definitely had something in him. However, the o/p mentioned our best players, which he wasn’t at that time
Don’t think Wigan were Prem . Speedie was speeded out by Clarke to a rich owner who’s ambitions far outweighed the support of his club . not my opinion of Speedie at the time tbh , I thought he was at least one of the best players at the club at the time with all the promise he proved in later times. That along with Beresford told me all I needed about Clarke . In fact he had problems with Glavin before he left .
Who would have been our best player back then? Had big Mick made his debut by then mate, or would it have been the lovely Derek Bell? He was scary close up
