With all the talk about Pinnock being offered big money to stay with us, I got wondering who is Barnsley's Highest ever paid player?

League One / Championship wages now are probably on par if not more than lower table Premier League wages from 20 years ago.

Despite all the fantastic players to have graced Oakwell I bet our highest ever paid player is somebody dead disappointing like Matt Mills

I was told that Hignett was on around £12k with us. Blackburn offered him £14k, which we couldn't / wouldn't match.

That was a while ago too! I always imagined our wage bill back then was tiny, even for the times

Wasn't Mike Sheron on £12k a week nearly 20 years ago

I was told that the highest paid player of the Cryne era was Gary O’Connor & that we were paying £10k a week of his wages whilst he was here on loan

I thought so, but apparently closer to £8k. I don't know anything for sure though, just going off what people have told me so could be miles out.

You could have a few bets and lines with that money.

It's not to be sniffed at that kind of figure.

I thought Hignett, I bet Shipperly and Chettle would have been on a tidy sum

I might be imagining this but wasn't Goran Lovre on something ridiculous? I'm sure I remember reading something at the time and couldn't believe we were paying him as much as we were.

Thought £10k a week and the highest paid on books at the time. ( Not sure if highest paid ever but was my thought) screwed us up during the itv digital debacle and administration.having to pay wages that became unmanageable. ( Not just him mind)

I still can't believe the club went into admin over £3 million of debt to the cooperative bank.
