things change mate its the way of the world. i think 3m was good business for a 26 yo who has 12months left on his contract and refuses to sign a better deal at the club. what you going to do with a player that wants away put his wife and kids in a cellar until he does sign. to be honest out of the 3 i would have prefered to keep lindsey i thought he didnt get bullied as much and was a better ball playing cb imo. mawson, roberts, mcdonald, they went and there replacements were untested and they turned out ok. i'm with you its d.s's team this time so lets see how he fairs

We had a better team at the beginning of 16/17, but was always vulnerable to the fire sale that happened in Jan. That's why I don't think we were more stable at that time.

I'm just an Oliver Twist in wanting more with regards to incoming transfer fees.:D
I'm certainly not writing any of our new players off, nor treating this squad of players as mere Championship relegation fodder. I AM looking forward to you asking the name of our new players whilst we're watching a match. AGAIN!:D

We did have a platform though and the club failed to act swiftly enough to offer deals. We've now sold our solid base and their public commitments mean Thiam Cavare and Pinillos may only be with us for up to 35 days more. It's all subjective of course but I'm far less confident than I was just a few weeks ago.

I reckon every Barnsley fan has higher expectations of transfer fees than we ever attain. Most rightly, and probably not because fans have a higher expectation than value.

Funny you should say that. Twelve months ago, there were comments like "Poor players in the Championship don't suddenly become good players in Division 1. They're simply poor players and that's why we're in for another relegation battle" & "None of our central defenders can head a ball. That's why we were relegated and that's why we'll struggle again next season". Fast forward a year and those 'poor players' who 'can't head a ball' are now regarded as class players much under valued by the club.:D

I wouldn't go the extreme of saying they couldn't head a ball (though others very much did). But I certainly was very concerned how they absolutely tanked towards the end so had much to prove. Delighted the vast majority who got us into League 1, then applied themselves under Stendel and allowed us to play a fantastic brand of football. And I think that makes it all the more sad.

Understandable they want more money and no loyalty, I fully know that's the way of the world. It's still always disappointing when it happens though and you start from square 1. Not knowing if you'll have a Mawson or a Kpekawa on your hands.

It is a good model, but needs refining to keep a few players longer on more money, still profiting in them in the end. I thought Pinnock might be one of those. Assume Mowatt and Cauley are on a fair bit more than some at the club.
