The Dee dars haven't even got a manager! Have they forgotten how they started last season, every phone in was like they were ringing the samaritans rather than praise or grumble! Think it will look very different to that. Cant see Luton being that high either.
That has us avoiding the drop though, contrary to reports that most bookies have us favourites for relegation
Bookies don't have us favourites. The book is relative to bets placed. If nobody backs Barnsley for relegation those odds will drift. Flip side if a hatful of bets are placed on Barnsley being promoted those odds will shorten. That league table is dependant on bets placed.
Minimal interest in relegation market tying money up for 9 months at short odds bookies offer a competitive price and take any bets there are much more interest in Premiership relegation market
There must be a point where they start offering odds before they take money though right? I mean chicken egg type thing.
Yeah you're spot on there is the first book. However, this can be amended once bets start being placed. However, saying Barnsley are relegation fodder just because a few quid has been placed is folly in my book. How many times do odds on favourites get turned over in horse racing?
Well given that that is based on bets placed and Leeds have a massive international fan base who will all be lumping on the certainty of their promotion I am not surprised they are top - much more surprised that the massive team in S6 isnt in second to be honest. Ill be surprised if both Luton and Charlton finish 6 places above us would be happy with that bottom 3 though - even better if Birmingham too the spot of Wigan
Big Sam and Mick Mccarthy used to target certain games to pick up the bread an butter points before the season started to off set disappointment of losing to the big boys. I wonder if this is a tactic secretly employed by most managers? If you break it down into a mini league of 7 teams like the ones listed above that's a possible 14 wins and you can seriously kick-on from there.
Gospel according to St Me No favouritism or bias whatsoever. Oh no. 1. West Brom 2. Fulham 3. Brentford 4. Leeds 5. Swansea 6. Stoke 7. Derby 8. Nott. Forest 9. Middlesboro 10. Bristol C 11. Birmingham 12. Barnsley 13. Cardiff 14. Preston 15. Sheff W 16. Hull 17. Blackburn 18. Charlton 19. Huddersfield 20. QPR 21. Reading 22. Wigan 23. Luton 24. Millwall
Very dangerous to just give up on so many games before a ball's been kicked. That really puts the pressure on you to win nearly all the games in your mini league. Stendel's stated philosophy is to try to win every game and I'd much rather watch a team that plays like that. Say No to defeatism!
I agree. I didn't mean it in a defeatist way. I'd hope we play games against the big boys with a care free attitude and see where it takes us.
