there are plenty of left of centre trade union men against the eu and who offer good reasoning for their stance, the following article gives an insight into their thinking and also mirrors the long term beliefs of men like arthur scargill and bob crow.

    https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/four-union-leaders-argue-brexit-8126878

these union men also mirror my long standing argument that the majority of workers rights in this country were won in decades of union struggle and representation of the working classes.

admittedly the majority of trade unions speak in favour of remain but in the main this is down to the fear of job losses and not because they agree with the Eu which demonstrates what bob crow said years ago and this was that sooner or later big business and capitalism will have a stranglehold on the workers throughout europe.

bob crow was also of the opinion that the free movement of people was a concept designed more to allow the influx of cheap labour from the former eastern bloc into western economies which in turn would keep wages down for big business

I agree with the Unions in general are against the EU and I understand their reasoning .
The fact other countries have better workers rights than us eg less hours, enhanced holidays and pay , more secure retainable employment rights etc etc .
The reason I’m against the departure of the EU is because I don’t trust our MPs to deliver for the workers , the Tories for obvious reasons but also labour .
Anyone standing for labour on a fairer society is rounded upon by the establishment and press with lies and exaggeration to the point of hysteria.
You’ve only to look at the comments on here about Corbyn and the labour leadership to see how they are soaked up.
The press and establishment won’t allow another radical govt as Atlees with even labour MPs joining in on the backstabbing .
So with this in mind the only chance areas such as Barnsley and the Dearne valley have of any investment or regeneration is from the EU.
It’s all well and good that the left of which I’m a part attacking the EU but they will forever be in opposition with good principles ignored by a right wing press and a Tory propaganda machine to ever be able to deliver.
Blairs Govt turned to almost Tory policies to keep power with the only investment in our areas coming from the EU and Blair bribing with enhanced benefits to quieten the lack of investment and security in jobs etc which the ToryLibs dismantled over night and sent us reeling into homelessness and shame of the disabled begging for benefits .
The left may have good intentions as I say but reality says the Tory’s will turn our Country to almost a US state with all the hatred and sneers it brings .

I like Lithuanians too, but it's bonkers that they have more immigration rights than me and my wife.

The home office visa sections actually worked very well until about ten years ago, when they underwent major "restructuring" (ie massive cuts and trained staff replaced with stamp monkeys on minimum wage and zero hours contracts). Quelle surprise.

Would that coincide with our last PM becoming Home Secretary by any chance?

Not sure if it is correct, but I have heard one solution is to live in the EU with your wife for a period of time, then you can both just move across to the UK....

but you're not factoring in the fact that the EU may change - workers rights etc. may not be one of their priorities it could become a very right wing organisation.
Whilst we can vote out a Tory or Labour government out here our influence in the EU is far less.
An interesting study would be to assess how much present tory policies have been influenced by the continuing membership of the EU.

How will it all end -- Boris gets a few concessions from the EU on the Irish backstop question - offers Corbyn an early general election if the Labour party support the new deal.

It wouldn’t last very long in France or Germany if workers rights were eroded , in fact I would confidently say it will never get to that ,
That’s just fantasy from Brexiteers . We’re more likely to see the far right and erosion of Workers and Human rights outside of the EU than in it .

Yes and yes. Although they now try to block people using the EU route as much as they can, even though it's completely illegal for them to do so. Obviously with Brexit looming, that avenue may well be completely closed off within a couple of months. Great.

its also fantasy that the eu are the saviours of the working class, its absolute clap trap marlon, the uk's minimum requirements are already in excess of the eu's, unemployment, particularly youth unemployment is higher throughout the eu than here, maternity pay/allowence is greater here than most other eu nations and well in excess of the eu's minimum requirements, the 1974 health and safety at work act has nothing to do with our membership of the eu, accident/fatalities throughout the eu are at their lowest here,in the uk,

have a read of the following links/articles and sources before you start with fantasies about brexiteers

and thal continue to live thru them whether in the eu or not,

we keep getting told by the remain camp that the eu,( in reality), is responsible for very few of our laws, yet the same people harp on that once we are out then all hell will break loose, which one is it marlon?

workers rights are protected in law and any changes would be scruitinised by parliament , therefore its highly unlikely we will be returning to victorian practices that people like yourself seem to think is inevitable, its hard to grasp when we come from labour strongholds that throughout the uk many working class people vote for the tories and imo theres no way would people in the tory party risk alienating these voters and IF they did then the workers soon get chance to return a government that will protect them

    The
Way Parliament sits now a days with MP numbers would be almost impossible to get through any erosion of workers rights that Tories might want to push through

You mean the Victorian policies Cameron and Clegg passed through which created the rise in Homelessness, Zero Hour contracts , slum landlords etc etc .
All these passed and they wanted to go even further till the Labour Party took them to the EU human rights board and stopped them.

exactly, gone are the days of big parliamentary majorities.. its just a pity we wernt going thru this when maggie was elected because we'd probably have some major industries left and we wouldnt have been as deeply entrenched in the eu as we are now

So much for the good old EU protecting workers rights then. Makes not one difference inside or out.

End of the day, we are net contributors and we as a country simply need to hold our own government to account to ensure that spending in areas like Barnsley continue when we finally leave the EU.
This fantasy about us getting EU money when it is just our budget top sliced.

For me just get on with leaving and agree a far smaller financial contribution to gain access to the single market. Pretty much the only thing the UK population ever was asked to join anyway, not this power hungry EU machine.

The "far left" are Anarchists, and they would be against the EU because they're against all forms of state control.
