Same blind optimism as always following a fantastic season last time out. I don't know whether I have "expectations" anymore, I think it's just hope.

I hope we're competitive, I hope we try to play the same entertaining football we had last season, whilst accepting it'll be so much tougher against better and sometimes more cynical opponents.

Some of the recent fees quoted for players at this level (£20m for the lad from Bristol City for example) show what we are up against. I'd like to think there'd be no early judgement of our team if results are poor, but again that's possibly just a hope. Stendel and his team and players need the same backing as last year, arguably more so if we are struggling.

The beauty of football at the beginning of the season is that it's a journey into the unknown, some clubs just defy the logic of finance and succeed against the odds. It's increasingly difficult I guess with more and more clubs throwing daft amounts about, but I've got that same optimism again, hoping for a bit of luck, and looking forward to the season. You never know.

Agree with all that, plus I'm looking forward to seeing Thiam's arse again. I've missed it over the summer.

    If the new dawn fades.

Then it’s likely to be the Equaliser !!!

Hard to miss it. Theres a famous saying around these parts 'No matter where your stood in Barnsley, you can always see Thiams arse'.
Fantastic arse, slightly bigger shorts needed methinks.

Wouldn’t imagine many got the link there ???

    ‘Dawn’ - and ‘equaliser’.
    Equaliser (as in football)
    Equaliser (as in the film)

New dawn fades - being the soundtrack of the Equaliser film.

Excellent post, old mate. I love the start of a new season. Even more so when we've won promotion. I think Daniel Stendel has been a breath of fresh air at our club, bringing an attractive, winning style with him, he made a positive connection with the fan base early on in his tenure.
Patience will be the key with our new players, as they find their feet. I certainly won't rush to criticise them if it takes a bit of time.
I believe under our Head Coach and his staff, we'll have a season of mid table security. This is based on pure faith, I can't offer any cast iron proof or arguments to back up my opinion., simply because I know I don't have the knowledge or ability to construct it.:D
