I've watched this club for 23 years so not a patch on some of the lads on here, but where does Stendel rank? His coaching ability for me is the very best weve had. The style of play, intensity, the passion etc etc etc.

To be promoted from league 1 at the first time of asking, in a foreign country and a league I very much doubt he had much knowledge of, not to mention him not being able to speak the language when he first arrived.

    We lost Bradshaw, no problem.
We lost Potts who was on fire, no problem.
Weve since lost another 6 key players coming into a league which is regarded as the most competitive in the world, starting against the favourites to win the league and he gets a brand new group of lads to absolutely smash them off the park.

The mans unreal, he really is. It's still early days, but jesus christ what a manager and backroom team weve got.

Also, a lad who recieved alot of unfair criticism from a section of supporters a few years ago deserves a massive thankyou from us, James Cryne. Well done on finding him and getting him through the door, and finding a manager who your dad would have absolutely loved. James, you've done your club proud but even more so, you've done your dad proud.

    Up them reds, absolutely buzzing.

I asked this question back in April - general consensus was it was too early to tell and he hadn't achieved anything.

He has now got a promotion under his belt and he's a great coach.

Still difficult to put him ahead of Danny as he achieved our ultimate goal with a squad that maybe wasn't the best but was well organised and with a great team spirit.

Don't think Stendel is a million miles away - football is great and he has an infectious personality. I'm just enjoying the ride at the minute :)

It's hard to decide when we've only ever had three coaches and the first two impressed enough with us that they were poached.

Technically we haven't as our managers would have all had coaches :)

I don't know about best, but I think he's definately in the discussion.

However, he's my favourite ever, by far.

I remember the football we played under Norman Hunter after Clark left for Leeds .Around 1981 82 .
Got us promoted from the old 3rd division, the football that this coach as got us playing reminds me of then.
Remember going to Pig Sty. Glavin on the bench and coming on and running em ragged.
Think it was the night Parker got naile.
I think your right to give this bloke the credit as above.
He did inherit a good squad but to have the heart rippled out and start again it bodes well.
It's early days yet and it will be a long season however to create some continuity here the board need to nail him down on a 4 year contract and his sidekick too .Tongy as done amazing with the youth lot and as carried this on to the first team
Long may this continue however I could be wrong big clubs are watching.

Still way too early to tell.
Everything he's done he's done well. He inherited a squad that should have been competitive though and they were.
We'll know a lot more by the end of this season.
Fingers crossed he's still firmly in the running come next May.

Stendel is brilliant - there’s no getting away from that fact.
However - Wilson style of play was also great.
And Heckys ability to create a brilliant team within a club with relatively no money to spend was also brilliant.
You only have to watch YouTube clips of the Hourihane, Winnall era to realise how exciting to watch that team was.
Could Stendel have put such a team together without much money - probably.

As for James Cryne - I would say the appointment of Stendel was solely down to these owners and GeeGee.
In saying that, with all accounts it was Patrick and James that got the moneyball system up and running at Barnsley.

I wasn’t around for the 81/82 Glavin ere.

But I was for the 96/97 and that season was magical. The football we played under Wilson was incredible, and against all the odds. I still think Stendel has a way to go. Wilson’s achievement was equivalent to Chris Wilders. Let’s see how this season pans out.

James Cryne is the owners. To think he had no part to play in Stendels appointment is ridiculous and, in my opinion is fueled by your irrational feelings towards PC.

I'll tell you what though I think he's firmly my favourite.

I’m sure he did. I also believe a former red headed right back played a key part in DS recruitment

It is not easy to make direct comparisons due to the different circumstances in which the club has operated over the years I first started going to Oakwell when Allan Clarke took over and the best football played since was under Danny Wilson followed by Hunter.
However Stendel is right up there with these two in my mind with Hecky and Clarke(1st time)not far behind

He’s done an excellent job & I like the bloke but I think you need some kind of longevity to be seen as one of the best.

I’m quite young & not much of a historian so can’t really judge anything before Danny Wilson’s 1st spell & even then I wouldn’t say I knew enough about football at such a young age to judge.

It’s hard to judge as well because we rarely keep a manager longer than 2 seasons.

If I ranked them from Davey onwards I’d go -

    Heckingbottom
    Robins
    Ritchie
    Hill
    Davey
    Flitcroft
    Johnson
    Wilson 2
    Morais

A mid-table finish for Stendel & I’d say he goes top of that.

I realise some will disagree with me ranking Hill 4th but I thought he built a great team, one on a par with the Hecky one pre-January 17. I don’t think the bad spell afterwards was down to Hill been a bad manager I think he’d simply had enough & wanted to leave & was happy to get the sack in the end.

Danny Wilson top still for me but I think a Stendel hug would make any of us feel great! If he stays with us long enough to get us into the top division he'd be top. Have to admit I love Chtis Stern too ( secretly hoping he will stay if and when Stendel leaves and becomes the youngest greatest Coach )

Sorry to hear that you disagree with me that there should be a statue erected at the ground of Patrick Cryne.

But i don’t believe that during the timeline of events that James Cryne had anything to do with either the appointment of Morais or Stendel.
I could be wrong as he’s still involved at the club.
But what was said at the time points to new owners appointing these two managers.

As a shy, retiring and modest manager of old once told us,,, he might not be the best manager, but he's in the top 1
