    Scousers booing the national anthem......

No need. They aren't known for covering themselves in glory.

Fine with that, to be honest. It's a song written for a monarchy and government based in London, and it does absolutely nothing for anybody in the rest of the country.

I would prefer a different national anthem, one just for England, but until this changes we have the one we've got. It's a song, don't sing it if you don't like it but no need to boo it. It's politically neutral, it has nothing to do with the government.

I'm in the scouse camp here. Asking a make believe bronze age despot to protect a woman born into unelected power and privilege. A new song, please. Preferably one that is at least up to 20th century standard.

Well done Liverpool. After when all over England hating on them towards champions league final I couldn’t agree more. Also it’s a self inflicted anthem. People on hear may disagree and I respect that!

I'm a atheist who thinks the royal family should be scrapped so the national anthem to me is asking a mythical entity to help a overly privileged woman have a good life, pure nonsense.
However I wouldn't boo it, I just don't sing it. In fact I think the last England game i went to I took the opportunity to nip to the loo.

I’m not a royalist by any stretch, but why boo it? Don’t get it. Is there some specific reason? Is Betty writing a column for The Sun or summat?

Didn't know the match was on and honestly couldn't have given a monkey's.
Only heard the score late last night and thought oh well, I was better off pulling the bindweed out of the flower beds.

It’s definitely not politically neutral, Mario, come on.

Its supports our political system with the monarch as head of state.

Yes but regardless of colour, as I said neutral and not affiliated to any one party. It was actually written long before any of our current parties even existed.

Wouldn't boo it myself, waste of energy - but it's only a song. Bit like when people get upset at folk burning flags (made in China).

I’m not a monarchist, nor a am I any sort of nationalist, but I stand up and sing it at England games because I’m proud of my country.

And when the other country’s anthem comes on, I’ll stand up and quietly respect it, because I’m not an absolute and total disrespectful c-unt and have actually been imbued with some sense of respect, decency and fair play.

I bet the same people who patriotically voted Brexit gave our national anthem a decent boo.

The world has gone absolutely mental.

Nobody suggested it supported any one political party.
