It doesn't matter. It's not literal. Do you think the French are really worried about conspiring kings? Do Americans really peer over the ramparts every morning? It's an expression of patriotism and respect and pride in your country. Don't get me wrong - I'd choose a different song given the choice.

One advantage of having the Monarchy is we haven't had a President Thatcher, May, Blair, Johnson etc waving from a newly erected 10 Downing Street balcony. I don't see God save the Queen as particularly political. Flower of Scotland celebrates the victory at Bannockburn whilst the apolitical Mae Hen Wlad fy Nhadau*** celebrates the Welsh language and culture. Alternatives may be Jerusalem or Land of Hope and Glory. And of course Abide With Me is sung at Cup Finals - can't recall if God save the Queen is sung at the final. Begs the question why anything is sung before a match - does it happen at County Cricket matches - rugby finals etc? *** being adopted as Cardiff City's song.
Last verse talks about General Wade slaying the Scots. Unacceptable that we should be sung about in such a barbaric manner. Racist and should be done away with along with the royals
Sort of, the political system itself is something I would like to see change radically. I know it's unlikely it ever will as it's hard to see any government voting to change the very system that put them in power. I do however concede the general point you were making is valid.
I don't understand the argument that an unelected inbred being head of state purely by accident of birth is somehow better than an elected head of state.
It may well be party neutral but it is certainly not politically neutral. By nature it's politically partisan. The national anthem of a country is, for some at least, irrevocably linked to the politics and actions of that nation. And that's also completely ignoring the fact that some Brits do not wish to live under a monarchy, even if it is only a constitutional one. I don't sing it and never would, and not just because I'm a republican. I'd never boo it or somehow disrespect it though. I'm not a pr*ck.
Whichever 'side' the song is on is irrelevant for that particular argument. Anything to do with royalty is political in the end. Outdated politics

Not sure if you are in complete agreement with me. But I do look forward to the day when we rid ourselves of the inbred parasites from buck House. Not sure if Nicola will ever be queen but what an honest and wonderful leader she is.
