What’s this off field incident?

When are our idiot minority going to realise that this songs lyrics could be offensive to the player? Even if he doesn't mind there are lots of people that do. So now even though the media may be disapointed the Christie incident was nothing to do with our fans our name will still be dragged through the mud because of an ill conceived chant! Stop it before we get fined and give the media the excuse to use their own stereotypical views on our fans.

 

He didn't seen to find it offensive at all at the end of the match, in fact he looked like he enjoyed it.

I was yards away from the singing and couldn’t clearly hear anything other than his name, and English is my first language.

So he’s not offended by something he clearly doesn’t understand, that doesn’t mean it’s not offensive.

When the FA and the club have politely asked the fans to not sing / chant the words, when we are all being tarred with the brush of racism; who wants to defend it?

 

So to be clear this song is offensive (no matter what lyrics are sung?).in which case I'm sure that tune was also sung at the notts forest match.

 

Of course it’s offensive. It’s a racial stereotype that has no place in this day and age.

 

Where has anyone said the racist chanting was from Barnsley fans? Certainly none of the BBC reports mention who was responsible. No-one has said it was the home fans singing a song about Bambo
If Fulham fans can racially abuse their own players' relatives then I think there is far more chance of them being responsible.
Also I agree with Diaby's reaction at the end as wombwell red pointed out. He had a huge grin on his face and he was actually applauding those fans, arms above his head, who were singing, looked like he was basking in it.

How do you know he doesn't understand?

Why do people automatically assume he would be offended? Perhaps he DOES know the words and just thinks it's a big laugh?

However it is interesting to note that all news outlets are reporting the same story from Kick it out, nowhere else. Nothing on the official site, nothing on local news then or now that I've heard, just a one liner saying "Kick it out said...."
So who reported it?
Bambo?
The club?
The media?

I'm not on twitter but perhaps if Bambo is, then someone could ask him directly, and get the definitive truth?

 

The words that I got were...he hates the wednesday he hates united, he's f*****g massive...if thats right whats it got to do with race?

 

It doesn’t say by whom though.
Some on here are saying it’s our own fans but as far as I’m aware all I could hear our lads chanting was his name and just wondered if I’d missed hearing summat else.

 

Agree To be fair sparky that’s what it sounded like to me. and I’m in the east stand. Nobody commented on it. Certainly didn’t appear to be the stereotypical phrase I read about last week.

 

Nothing is inherently offensive. It is all personal taste.

Like I said - I was fairly close to it, and I couldn't make out the lyrics - and English is my first language.

I thought they were all quite simple words.

And last week the club released a statement saying it was unacceptable - but you'll just ignore that because it's inconvenient for you to admit you're on the wrong side of this.

 

Very true depends where one would set the bar of morals, common sense and decency I guess

 

There's certainly a socially accepted level of decency, which is in constant flux, but offence is a different thing.

I'm really interested in the reaction to this song, the semantics of the words used to describe it, the meanings of the words racist, racism and prejudice, the generational gap between those singing it and those judging them, the language those who judge them have used in their time. It's absolutely fascinating. But this is not the forum on which it should be discussed. You could make a degree course out of it.

Checks and balances, always do the right thing! You are right there could be a very long debate about this and I’m 100% convinced this forum isn’t the place for it. It will be interesting to see how it develops further.

From what I gathered it was a reference to something else being massive. Chanting it in the stand, whether he doesn’t mind it or not, just isn’t right.

 

So if the massive line is missed out then is it alright or isnt it?
