Which I sincerely don't understand. I have read loads of messages from their fans praising the deal. Nobody questioning that to release funds their owner bought their ground off them and will now gamble even more with their future by giving someone a six figure weekly salary in the second tier. That is a big gamble for the future when they could be a future Bolton and I don't understand why nobody seems to be questioning the owner.

His wages won't count to FFP as he's a player coach.

We should make our entire team player coaches if FFP is that easy to get around.

Can't see him immediately playing against us on his first day of employment unless they get him in unofficially before then.

Is that really so? Sounds like a very loose loophole. However, whether it counts towards FFP or not, it's still another 4 million quid a year deeper into the hole for Derby.

The MLS regular season ends in October - although DC Utd are in with a shout at the end-of-season play-offs, but he should be free around the start of November.

Does me saying "could be a decent punt" in the same post not clarify my view on it? As in, i'm not sure how it will work out?

Just confused about what experience you think he has not your overall post.

Let's face it, if we had signed him then this BBS barring a small handful would be ecstatic. No idea whether/ how much Derby are bending FFP for him but could be a good move for both parties.

International footballer, UEFA coaching badges, one of the highest goalscorers in Man Utd's history, long career at the top. If he can put that experience to good use as a coach then maybe it's worth a punt.

Can see the attraction for Derby certainly something to give as a player I just don’t see him as being able to speak about conditioning et al given his reliance on natural talent. Not sure why people think good footballer equals qualification to be a coach. He has zero experience in the role. Most quality coaches seem modest footballers.

Very true but I imagine the shirt sales will make up for it! Plus they will attract better players with him there I reckon

Him being player/coach means he is classed as general staff not playing staff and therefore not part of FFP rules. It's another fiddle. 80k a week allegedly.

I think the likes of Lampard, Gerrard and Terry have done reasonably well so far with their respective posts. Lee Bowyer was a complete knob as a player but was doing well. Seems to be no rhyme nor reason to it. Gattuso and Simeone were both hotheaded as players and have gone on to become managers, for instance.

I agree that not all footballers are going to make good coaches but equally I think having someone such as Rooney in the twilight of his career have a dual role like that may just pay off.
