Oh yes it is. It is being insulting or ridiculing someone because of where they were born, or live and the way that they speak. Being called a "Dingle" is equally insulting meaning that all people from Barnsley, or who live there are stupid and of low intelligence. It just goes back to calling names in the playground. People who do it are saying more about themselves than the group they wish to insult. Childish...and fairly stupid behaviour really
Why should it be binned? Because ‘I’ posted it? Because I don’t post threads as much as others? That’s a little bit unfair don’t ya think? Just because a thread of the same nature has been posted by someone that doesn’t post a lot?
My point exactly but some people don’t seem to grasp it. They take one little snippet of the post and pull it to pieces! Instead of reading it and taking it all into context
Its just a bit dull mate and some people grab the moral high horse and run with it because their point of view is obviously correct. What's your view on the price we got for Kieffer?
can a sheep-shagger say something - few seasons ago when Cardiff were at Oakwell there were chants of --- shepp-******** etc ringing round the ground. Didn't bother me at all - why should it ffs? (pm if you want to borrow my wellies and Velcro gloves!)
Half my family are blood-related afro-caribbean (jamaican) and woe betide anyone using the 'n' word. Dingle? couldn't give a rat's ass
I don't get how it's so hard to grasp that not all 'isms' or forms of abuse are of equal severity. Everything has a very different historical context. When someone can provide me evidence of the entire diaspora of Sheffield folk being abducted and made to work as slaves, getting lynched or being barred from entering buildings or be given employment then we might be able to equate or compare 'deedar' to anti-black abuse.
racism and poking fun at people for where they're from are very different... and if anyone's offended by being called a pikey or a dingle on a match day then they want slapping. Obviously a wind up thread.
What do you want to use it for? This thread is certainly eye opening. Racism is alive and well in Barnsley, only it’s seen as on a par with the word ‘dingle’.
I think it is fair to say the following link is apt for a handful of regular posters on here. Most of us can work out who they are although, ironically, those to whom I am referring, probably don't realise.
And clearly now seeing racism as offensive just means we have no sense of humour, we're too easily offended or just like to take the moral high ground. We should just let the racists get on with it - it's just harmless banter.
Bore Da! Context is all important - as a fully paid up sheep sha**er, being called that doesn't bother me at all - and when the Oakwell faithful refer to the Cardiff/Swansea players with that term I see it as harmless banter. However if there was a sign in a house window with rooms to let which said 'No sheep-sha**ers, no pet lambs' it would be a tad discriminatory.
Explain to me why saying "I've been jewed" in relation to a financial transaction where one has been ripped off with no anti jewish intent - no knowledge of the origin of the word, and no one of the Jewish faith involved in the transaction - is worse than someone on Radio Sheffield football phone in calling people from Barnsley dingles with all sneering, derision, and looking down their noses - in full knowledge and malice that it normally entails.
