I was told it was all completed on Friday.

Something has definitely gone wrong here

I was also confident he would come good. Mowatt on the other hand - I thought was another Dale Jennings. I was wrong.

Scunthorpe fans seem to unanimously think he's gash. One says we've had a "lucky escape". Let's see.

If he really was that close to coming and then changed to Wigan it suggests he wasnt really committed to coming here( or Wigan either if money swayed him) so maybe a blessing in dishuise

If any player gets a better offer, they'll generally take it. If anyone apart from a Barnsley born player (and not always even then) says when they were little, they always wanted to sign for Barnsley... i'm inclined not to quite believe them.

All footballers are mercenaries. Does anyone actually sign for Barnsley with serious aspirations of winning something or playing in the Premier League? Sobering thought really.

    ...apart from Mads Andersen.
He even described our ground as 'beautiful'.
If ever a child was born, whose destiny was to play for Barnsley, this is him.

Agreed but presumably the set up plays a part too. If you listen to any of the under the cosh podcasts different clubs are better personally to different players. As I've stated before work us more enjoyable if you have good teammates and a good manager. We need to sign players committed to our set up style of play etc.

Don't get too attached.... the sorrow when an offer comes in for him will be overwhelming for you ;-)

You never know if a player will fit, and some who might aren't always given the chance. Look at the number 10 debacle last time we were in this division.

As for the set up, is it any better than our peers? Its handy the training pitches being close to the ground, but I'm not sure a player would forego a 20% pay award or increased bonuses for the pleasure of playing here.

We see that when offers come in and they are gone. A player is only as loyal as the highest offer. I'd be surprised if money at Championship level and below isn't the prime reason for joining a club in 98% of cases.

Ok. But I personally rather be with personnel I get on with for 5 grand a week than somewhere where the manager and teammates made me feel miserable for 7 grand. Surely other people think like that?

If it is purely money based then Barnsley have no hope!

That's why the club is trying to take the next step.

It's hard though after all those years of balancing the books to be taken seriously hence record bids being turned down and players taking other options.

    It'll come though.

How do you know where you fit til you get there? And even better in football, you get to move even more and get another signing on fee, maybe even have your contract fully paid up and get another new contract elsewhere.

Barnsley have hope. We poach from other clubs below us, til someone poaches players from us because they are willing to pay more.

Just going by comments like Woodrow made in the programme like Stendel giving him the freedom he likes and Mcgeady on STID saying the manager wasnt telling him where to go and what to do. I know the sort of manager I prefer.

So there are no other coaches/managers who actively coach their players?

Jose Mourinho doesn't think you should have to tell players what to do. That's why he slated Luke Shaw. Mourinho thinks a coaches job is training and manager's job is tactics. Footballers should know what they're doing instinctively.
