I am pretty computer savvy but looking for a laptop for my daughter and noticed a lot of them now come with eMMc drives - anyone got one and are there any advantages over a traditional hard drive or Ssd ? One thing I've noticed is their capacity isn't as good
Some laptops have both electronic drives (eMMC/SSD) and traditional mechanical hard drives. Mine is like that, the C drive is SSD so it boots up in seconds, but I have a large hard drive for drive D so I have lots of space. SSD is faster than eMMC, but more expensive. If you can afford it, I'd go for a dual SSD/hard drive system.
I’d say it’s best to cut out the middle man and go all SSD- doesn’t need to have high storage capacity. Far better to do that and then even have an external hard drive for larger files (films etc) if necessary.
Cheers mate - not looking for anything too expensive - she's off to uni next year something for her work. So your SSD contains operating system and other drive for storage? The eMMc seems like a glorified flash drive from what I can make out.
Cheers mate - to be honest I'll try and encourage to back up on cloud storage as well - seen too many physical storage mishaps - especially with dissertations etc. Can remember my of drunk ex friends throwing my dissertation out of the window at college on my 3.5 'disk! :-( if he wasn't nearly 20 stone he'd have followed it
Yes, I have Windows 10 and all my apps/programs on the SSD drive and everything else goes on drive D. As MidlandsBFC has said, you could use an external hard drive too instead of a built-in HDD, but I find it's too much hassle if you are lugging it around a lot.
As I said not a fan of external storage devices - was going to look at an Ssd drive to be honest. Not been laptop shopping in years and there seemed to be a lot of these drives around
I'd recommend ssd and try get 8gb ram, if you get office it should come with like a large amount of cloud storage so the ssd capacity shouldn't matter
