...I think I can hear all those knees jerking here in St Petersburg. Sounds like tonight was as rubbish as the Fulham game was superb. Let's see where we are at the end of October before we start passing judgement on the players, board, tactics, pies etc.
Usual suspects shouting loudest. By all accounts we were rubbish, just as we might be again sometime. Such is I guess
It didn’t go, didn’t listen to it on the radio, haven’t seen any highlights nor spoken to anyone about the details in the game but I thought we played crap. It looks like I’ll have to be happy we’ll be finishing 18th this year.
As have 91 other teams, with the possible exception of Manchester City. Though they made up for it by being pretty much permanently rubbish for their entire existence prior to the last ten years.
I said before Fulham the defence absolutely terrifies me, that will be the case all season it appears. Last night was one game though let’s see what happens on Saturday It’s certainly going to be a rollercoaster as the Fulham game was probably the best I’ve seen us play in 10 years!
Back five will completely different on saturday against Charlton. Radlinger will be back in goal and Diaby and Anderson will be central. Hopefully Cavare and Pinillos will be full backs.
I get the sentiment Merde Tete but it was shockingly bad. I complimented our Fulham result not just for the scoreline but for the manner of the performance. I was not surprised by the Wednesday defeat - when do we ever get owt there? But for our 3rd game to throw up that performance kind of boggles the mind a little. YES, it was a new set of players, mostly, but we cannot expect the same XI that beat Fulham to start every match and I worry a little if any of last nights failures are required for any length of time. All I can think this morning is do I really want to see us play Charlton on Saturday?
Hopefully last night has been a wake up call for the entire squad. The only thing they can do now is stick together and help one another in the hope they can play as well as they did in our opening game against Fulham. That game showed that if they apply themselves, they can play together effectively. Can't explain last night. Looking at the highlights on Sky we looked shocking. We have to hope that starting on Saturday, we are able to improve otherwise it's going to be a really tough season.
I think we are very early in the development of our defence and squad as a whole. We have young inexperienced guys coming up against better players every week (in this league). This will take time , we did well v fulham and poor v wednesday. I think it could well be a few weeks yet before we start to galvanize properly.
Oh I don't doubt it was shockingly bad. But I think after the performances over the last year, especially at home, the manager has a bit of credit in the bank. Let's see what Saturday brings. I'd blocked the 0-6 v Charlton out of my mind, though if I remember correctly we didn't actually play that badly, just everything that could go wrong did go wrong.
Yes, Herr Stendel has credit and his stock remains high. I fully get that we needed to get a bad performance out of the way. My worry is that the Fulham performance was the good performance out of the way. Was really down in the dumps last night, but I am a little clearer today. Nostrovia.
I'll pass judgement whenever I want! This is a free country! I like the Chicken Balti Pukka Pie and it deserves praise!
As poor as it was last night. Anyone who thought it was going to be anything but tough, Are not used to seeing us get battered when so many changes are made to the team. A settled side ( eg Carlisle) counts for a lot regardless of standard of players. I’m not blaming Stendel as it gives him an ideal opportunity to suss out the rest of the squad. Also reluctant to blame most of the players when they haven’t played a competitive game together. One or two can slot in and not have such a detrimental effect.
I haven't seen the game from last night or the highlights. I don't doubt it was a shocking performance. Are we really surprised though? Year in year out we make wholesale changes to the team for the first round of the League Cup and year in year out we play absolutely garbage and usually get turned over or squeak through. I understand why the changes were made but history shows it very rarely works.
