Worth a listen, just when you couldn't think it could get worse, the bury owner Steve Dale ends up having an argument on air with ex red and Bury midfielder Stephen Dawson!!
I have to admit I don't know all the ins and outs of what has been going off, but whenever I've heard him speak or seen bits he's written it almost seems like he wants the club to close. I might be wrong on that but it doesn't appear that he's wanting to find a buyer! I saw the staff made their own statement the other day begging him to accept an offer that had been received, that in itself shows how desperate things are, especially when they have until the 23rd or they are expelled from the EFL.
You can take a view on whose right and whose wrong but one thing that came across clear to me is the lack of communication/understanding between them. In that situation you would have expected the owner to have regular meetings with the players/staff with updates. They came across as complete strangers to each other.
I don't know the full ins and outs but I got the distinct impression the owner was lying and Dawson was telling the truth.
This situation and the Bolton one seem to have gone further down the road than previous clubs in Admin - taken longer/had more issues-games cancelled etc. Both clubs are in this situation caused by them spending more money than they should. (Bolton survived arguably this way and we got relegated sticking to the rules). so as far as these situations have got, do we really think though that either will go the full distance and any of them be kicked out of the league? if not it begs the question will ANY team EVER be punished by being kicked out - or will there always be a 'last minute buy out/deal to be had' So what is the true deterrent to overspending?
The owner sounds like a lying knob but I would really hope Dawson had managed his finances better than being at the point where he'd lose his home over a reduction in income. He's 33 and in the twilight of his career, he must have thought about what happens when he's on his way out.
Somebody said other day about owners being taken to task from a legal aspect. Perhaps should be something like the director being fined by FA etc
Bury have been given until 23rd August to prove they have finances to fulfil the season. My feeling is they will fold.
I hope they survive I really do. But I do feel they should be instantly relegated along with Bolton. Bury bought promotion last season and it has back fired. The league need to be tougher on financial fair play and both clubs hopefully find new owners and survive but start again in the bottom division next season, or at least start on a points tally which would relegate.
Even if both survive, which I doubt, both will surely be relegated. The EFL are as much to blame as the clubs. I feel sorry for the fans & all the local people that work for these clubs, who are going to lose out massively. My heart isn't bleeding for the players, Dawson included.
There was absolutely no empathy whatsoever from the chairman towards one of his staff. He came across as a complete tool in that interview.
Must admit I’m not Dawson’s biggest fan but that Chairman is a total @?se. How does someone like that ever be successful enough to run a game bath never mind a business or football club. It’s even worse for the non playing staff as they won’t even have the half wages the PFA have sent to the players.
