Questions for Dane Murphy, Robert Zuk and Daniel Stendel

    Dane Murphy / Daniel Stendel

Do you think that our transfer dealings have resulted in a balanced squad, because from the outside looking in, it looks like we have too many young players and not enough height in the forward line?

Who were the players that we missed that you think would have made a difference?

Daniel Stendel asked for experience. Experienced does not necessarily mean old, but why did we miss out on that experience?

With so many changes, it is bound to take time for the team to settle. When will performances begin to even out, in your opinion?

A Chief Coach who does not get the squad he wants will struggle to get results on the field. How will the CEO measure the performance of the Chief Coach in these circumstances?

Isn’t it true that the Chief Coach is no longer called Team Manager because his duties and responsibilities are different? Isn’t it true that the gradual improvement to the squad young players is more important to a business with our modus operandi (buy young, improve and sell on) than winning games.

Does the club have any plans to strengthen again in the January transfer window?

Mr Conway is reputed to have said that the club would break its transfer record in the last window. I assume that we missed out on the player(s) that would have achieved that. Did we fail because we failed to agree a fee with a selling club, or did we fail because we failed to agree terms with a player?

    Robert Zuk

I notice that as per the last published accounts to 31 May 2018 (note 3), our turnover was almost £14m. Almost £8m of that sum was revenue from Football League Distributions, Whilst Match Day Revenue was just £3.6m. Not included in that figure of £14m (as per note 7 Player Trading) the Profit on Player Sales was almost £3.8m. Just how important are the fans (winning games) when their contribution to total turnover is only 3rd on the above list.

Mr Conway stated that we had lost £6m in turnover when we were relegated at the end of the above season. What contingency plans has the club made in case it is relegated again this season?

Why has the club registered a charge with Barclays Bank Ltd on 3rd July 2019?

How do you determine whether the academy represents good value for money over the long term?

In the long term, our present owners will wish to realise their investment in Barnsley FC. Is it true that the only way that they can do so is by selling the club on.

Patrick Cryne took great care to find responsible new owners. Did he build anything into the sale agreement that would ensure our new owners will take the same care when they sell on?

Have the new owners put anything into the business, or is their investment confined to the money that was paid to Patrick Cryne?

Where’s Paul Conway? And can someone explain his statement that the clubs has had its best transfer window in our history?

As far as the plan is concerned.
Are all the board members so fixated on making a profit on each player that they will accept relegation if that is the outcome?
As our model is based upon the moneyball model and the instigator of that model is a board member (I think Billy is anyway)
Billy Bean and moneyball was not all about buying young and selling on.
There was also an aspect of giving older players a second chance.
    But get value from players.
Why do we seem to ignore that aspect of the model?

In response to Skegby. (Sorry mate forgot to click the reply button.)
If lots on here are correct. (Relegation looming) (bonkers at this stage btw) Stendel will not be getting a new contract He'll be sacked. So gior worrying about it. Managers come and go. And if a replacement is found to be better than the previous one. All the better. Very, very few managers are popular with the fans once the results dry up. Ask Arsene Wenger. Also how many managers when leaving Barnsley under their own steam. Have gone on to have very successful careers elsewhere. Off the top of my head only Danny Wilson has had a good stint as a manager since. At similar or lower levels to ourselves. I feel sure I will be corrected. Lee Johnson holding his own and Hecky under under the cosh with Hibs fans.
PS Skegby your question is relevant and lots are seeking an answer and this does not mean I wouldn't like to see Stendel extend his contract. But I certainly won't lose any sleep over it.

Why were we allowed to become so light on striker options? Physically and numerically.

Why do we have to post questions on here, why not just ask em first hand.. It wouldn't be so the answers are already rehearsed would it..
Seems like,"we'll come and meet you but only on our terms" ..hand picked question.. and absolutely no surprises..

    Our club.... is it really

Isn’t it a symptom of the internet age that people think a ‘question’ is a loaded question that includes an assumed response?
How many people don’t know the difference between a question a debate and an argument?

Just 2 question examples from above:
Daniel; given that you haven’t agreed a contract extension, you’re obviously waiting till the end of the season. We’ll presume you’re yet to decide, how would you define a ‘successful’ season that’d make you want to stay here at Barnsley?

Dane; if we can assume you didn’t get your 1st choice targets during the closed season, how long do we expect this team of newcomers to take to perform to the expected standard? And are you still hoping to strengthen the squad in January?

We live in an age of spin and sound bite and prepared scrip's.. where debate is only welcomed in-between strict pre-set parameters..

    Toe the party line comrades..

You could always attend the event and ask your questions.
Or not attend and remain paranoid.

I think the idea is for folk that can’t attend but would like an answer to a question then it can be asked on your behalf

It's an open q and a for anyone to go ask what they want. Sometimes the floor questions dry up and in the past ive asked a few questions from here. Nothing more to it than that

Think attending these events would be one of the worst aspects of being a manager!

I doubt all your questions will get asked but some of them we kind of know the answer to already.

Patrick Cryne answered this question numerous times. The role was changed because it allowed the Head Coach to focus on the playing side and not lots of administration and paperwork. I feel like this kind of setup is now the norm rather than the exception.

The owners have also stated numerous times that winning games is important. The objective is mid-table Championship for this season and that hadn't changed at 2:55pm on Saturday or at 5pm on Saturday. The business model isn't built on losing £6m of revenue at the end of this season.

Probably safe to say yes on this? Don't think any club rules out January signings before the end of August do they?

One would assume the same relegation release clauses that were in place last time we were relegated.

Conway was on stage in the FanZone on Saturday and said the Academy isn't working hard enough for us and we want more Academy players knocking on the door of the first team. One of their objectives is to ensure this happens over the coming years, which would then represent good value for money

We could also reach the Premier League ...........

I think they've been pretty clear that the club needs to run itself. I would guess that no additional investment has been made. We spend what we can afford and what we create.
