just watched the last hours play, absolutely awesome effort by stokes and a crazy ending that was nearly on par with the NZ final
WOW you've made yourself look a right **** after that comment. Do yourself a favour and keep it shut next time, "pillock"
Lol See my posts on the "Ben Stokes and redemption" thread. But do me a favour and don't bother engaging me about them.
Steady on. His shot was extraordinarily poor especially considering the state of the game: stupid at best. Stokes knock in the 2nd innings was extraordinarily brilliant (circumstancial) but it was australia who effed up missing chances. I'd have happily called him a lovely person for that first innings shot.
Had an interesting discussion with an Aussie friend this morning about the LBW decision. He is of the opinion that umpires should take the number of reviews remaining into account, so even though they thought Stokes was not out, they should have given it out, as we could have reviewed it. What’s people’s opinion on this?
Nah that's a daft proposal in my opinion. Umpire has to go by his decision. He'd be giving every call out if your mate had his way- there are dozens of shouts every match. It would become farcical. I get that we would retain the reviews, but it would encourage more calls. I like it how it is, and we shouldn't be changing it on the back of a rare umpiring mistake.
hard 1, if umpire gives it out due to reviews left but he honestly thought it not-out and it's only just nicking off stump, he'd have to walk which would be deemed harsh, end of the day it's human error which is unavoidable, just seems to be too many in this series
I've got an Aussie mate who thinks we should get rid of umpires altogether, and just user he TV umpire, with EVERY lbw call going through the front foot, ultra-edge and Hawkeye procedure. The Aussies really are as bad a losers as they are winners, aren't they?
We are having the rub of the green at the moment but it will turn eventually. I stick by my comments yesterday, that I felt we deserved to win that match based on the heroics of yesterday. If we had have lost, being a run away from tieing the match, I think most neutrals would've considered us hard done by.
They shouldn't, as that lessens the impact of pissing away your reviews. Plus it could have been given umpire's call, in which case it would have been given out even though the umpire thought it wasn't out. Having said that I'd probably have given it out if I was the umpire for self-preservation reasons as no matter what then happens you won't face any substantial criticism
I really enjoyed watching Mitchell Johnson giving his summary yesterday. I got the impression he wasn't too happy. Great TV.
That's nonsense, you give it as you see it regardless. The umpiring in this series has not been brilliant in any match. Odds were in a tight game when decisions are key they'd get one wrong. Mitigating factors however include lots of noise making hearing snicks harder and the ball doing plenty making lbws very tricky. If umpires are to take the number of reviews into consideration when making decisions you may as well do away with them and have all calls done remotely with the aid of tv replays, snicko, ball tracking etc. You can bin appealing at that point too. So it's a no from me.
Just seen an interview with Ben Stokes where he reckons the hawk eye is wrong, as the ball didn’t spin nearly as much as hawk eye says it did. Seen people saying that the tracking continued the line after it his his front pad. Doesn’t really matter of course, but interesting discussion all the same.
Yes but the point is if you start taking into account the number of reviews left then umpires call becomes meaningless. Agree it's very surprising he didn't give it out knowing England could review it but he have what he saw which is what should be done.
See my reply above, I agree with you. This response was to someone saying the lbw call against Lyon wouldn't have neen successfully reviewed as it was umpires call.
