    Sincere congrats on raising the tone with the poetry about Ben Stokes and the great comment on my post on dogma. I feel I would know you if I saw you sat outside Evoo on a match day. You would be sat at a table wearing a black roll neck, nursing a small espresso with a pack of Gitanes nestled atop a copy of Jean Paul Satre's The Wall on your table. You would be staring into the middle distance contemplating what Satre would have made of thise around you, enslaved by their freedom to spend £150 on a Stone Island top. Tell me I'm right :D:D

    Well thank you, Darfield 138. I don't know about Jean Paul, but Max Weber is my favourite sociologist/philosopher. He spoke about growing bureaucracy as "the iron cage which engulfs us all" - prescient, don't you think, in these days of Brexit and the kickback against globalisation?

    But as I am now turned 60, I often contemplate these other beautiful and moving words of Shakespeare about ageing and love:

    That time of year thou mayst in me behold
    When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang
    Upon those boughs which shake against the cold,
    Bare ruined choirs, where late the sweet birds sang.
    In me thou see'st the twilight of such day
    As after sunset fadeth in the west;
    Which by and by black night doth take away,
    Death's second self, that seals up all in rest.
    In me thou see'st the glowing of such fire,
    That on the ashes of his youth doth lie,
    As the deathbed whereon it must expire,
    Consumed with that which it was nourished by.
    This thou perceiv'st, which makes thy love more strong,
    To love that well which thou must leave ere long.

    Apologies for the late reply, been out and about. I've only posted for 6 months or so but its nice to see something different. I've found some people can be almost lynched if they put forward anything different from other's views, not everyone but some, so an urbane poster is a good change. Marlon's ok aswell we've agreed to disagree on stuff.
