Nathan Lyon getting ratty at the Derbyshire v Aussies game, according to a Yorkshire forum, as people take the piss out of his botched run out. Still, at least it won't end his career will it unlike what the muppet wished for on England players previously
Agree. I think we have to win at Old Trafford. What’s the weather forecast? Though to be fair, you get a lot of results at the oval now, and considering the poor batting line ups too. I’ve seen us lose to SA, beat India twice, beat, lose and draw against the convicts and can’t recall Pakistan result, the other year.
Rightly or wrongly the selectors are going to change very little at this late stage in the series. The Aussies would have pounced on that as showing a weakness in our team . A regig of the batting order wouldn't hurt though imo.
I don’t have anybody on mute. Some folks I agree with and enjoy their views. Some folks I disagree with and enjoy their reasoning. Some folks make me laugh out loud.
Wasn't if Jack Nicklaus who said that the more he practices and the harder he works the luckier he gets?
Think it was Gary Player, but even then I seem to recall he may have been quoting someone else. It's a great line though, such a truism, and by all accounts it certainly seems to apply to Stokes. I'm not convinced keeping the batting line up the same is a good idea. Leaving Mr Roy in the side seems like an act of cruelty, but the selectors know the players better than us, and if they think giving him a rest would harm his confidence/progress more than letting him try to learn how to become a test batsman in the most intense series of them all, so be it.
Yeah we are quite settled for openers are England right now. Since Strauss retired in 2012 we have only had the following bat with Cook- Compton Root Carberry Robson Trott Lyth Ali Buttler (in a run chase admittedly) Hales Duckett Hameed Jennings Stoneman Denly
Chuckling. You're right about the chopping and changing, but if that's because it never quite works out, I'm not sure what the answer is. Oh and there was no need to cheat by including Dennis Compton.
I would leave Roy in the side but I would move him down the order. He's a very good batsman, I'm just not convinced he's a test opening batsman.
Just as an aside... Has anyone seen the West Indies spinner playing in the test v India just now? The boys some athlete!
Siddall and Lyon were guests at Goodison Park today - brought out to wave to the crowd at half-time. Loads of booing. Great line from commentator; “......nice to see Lyon get a run out this week”
I think the county schedules have kept them in the side more than anything. Bizarre that counties were playing FC cricket at a time in the world cup, when there was a chance we'd need to call up a replacement for Jason Roy. Now we're looking at alternative test match batsmen, we have the counties playing t20.
Out of all those mentioned there was only Hales that looked like he was improving then he was dropped because he hadn't made a century and he mouthed off at an official at Trentbridge.
Looks like Burns and Denly will open at Old Trafford, with Roy batting at 4. If the selectors insist on the same XI as they played ay Headingly, then this is the right decision for me...
