    We've been through this, Mays deal meant we would leave the EU - but the ERG prevented us doing that. The MP's that have just voted againt leaving with no deal all voted to leave the EU under Mays deal. They are not voting against implementing the result of the referendum - but they are voting to control how that is done - no different to the way Boris and the ERG have behaved.

    The passengers of a plane vote narrowly to return to the ground - the pilot opens the doors an tells them to jump - that fulfils the vote even though they all thought he would make a controlled landing.
    All and I mean All the statements on the referendum by vote leave were for leaving with a deal, the 2017 Tory manifesto was to leave with a deal
    all the "rebel" MP's are trying to do is prevent the plane crash.

    2 days ago Rees Mogg stated we cant have a second referendum because now the public know what is involved they will vote to remain how is that democracy.

    How about if Boris had a referendum to say whether more money should be made available for the NHS - we vote for it. Then he removes all the free prescriptions introduces charging for doctors visits and operations - but puts that money back in to hospitals and staff salaries - he would fulfil the blank cheque given by the referendum but you wouldnt say it was right would you?

    Exactly. No Deal is likely to be a disaster for most people in the country. JRM on the other hand stands to make many millions from shorting the pound. The people might want it, but that doesn't mean they should get it if *in the considered opinions of our elected representatives* it would be bad for the country.

    Should JRM vote for something his constituents don't want and would be bad for them, if it makes him some money?

    If No Deal is such a bad thing that the threat would force the EU to negotiate, then why are we aggressively pursuing it?

    Yes but Corbyns not in the Tory party as isn’t Joe Swinson,Ian Blackford,Carolyn Lucas ,Liz Saville Roberts who also voted against the deal.

    21 have put their jobs on the line to do wjat they see is right for their constituents. I'm aware one or two of those were due to retire anyway, but some have shown a lot of courage in my book & I'm not a supporter of the Tory Party by any means.

    We should have moved to a form of PR, like the alternative vote system years ago. This would have left lots more room for new parties springing up, both on the left, or the right, but this would give voters a real choice & wouldn't lead to so many "safe" seats. Sadly the two largest parties have always opposed this. Every democracy in western europe have such systems, only the USA & UK systems are so antiquated.

    Beaten by 29 in the Bill being passed , must have some more Tory rebels on board .
    Boris thought his blustering would win the day he’ll be kicking stuffing out of Cummings if this is looking like his downfall .
    Speaking of which I’d have thought someone would have adapted that famous clip to this fiasco by now.

    I Think so . But it was 327 v 301 yesterday and the vote today was 329 v 300 today in listening to debates but haven’t Sussed it out yet .
    I’ve never known anything like this in politics in my lifetime and I watched all the miners strike debates and the pit closures under Major and even though my livelihood was at stake it didn’t seem as dramatic as this on the media front anyway obviously it was with me.

    Agreed....and the latest development is that Stephen Kinnock's amendment bringing the last, but unpresented version of May's deal back to the house has passed tonight ...allegedly by accident, as the Govt didn't provide the necessary tellers.
