No offence mate but this is bonkers. I've been a Labour supporter all my life and was a Member until it went rather too blue for my liking. Unlike you i actually voted Leave - though not with a Crash out. Labour's conduct, in blocking a no deal crash out has been exemplary as has the conduct of the Opposition parties and (I can't believe I'm going to say this) some highly principled Tories.

Unlike you, if Labour stand on a Remain platform in any election, I'll still vote for them. Why? Because fvcking Brexit is not the 'be all and end all' of politics and anyone who casts their vote solely on that issue in any election wants their bumps feeling - madness. Labour these days might not be very Socialist in their policies (in spite of so many falling for the Daily Mail line) but in today's dodgy world politics I'll take their Social Democratic policies everytime.

 

I do think you're confusing different issues here. I agree with you about the result per se but the terms of leaving weren't clear on the original ballot. Hence, in my view, the problem with HOW to leave. As for the election refusal by labour its a sensible and democratic thing for the opposition in parliament to say 'no' if there would be potentially devastating consequences if they were to say yes. If Labour voted against a general election because there was a big chance of nuclear war would you disown them? The Labour Party is being sensible. You should reconsider your view in my opinion.

Oh dear. Another one who can’t quite get his head around the concept of Parliamentary Democracy or what you can and can’t vote for in a General Election.
Two things. We really do need a written constitution and two, we really do need to educate children about how the British version of democracy actually works.

Furthermore - go into a classroom in Barnsley and get the kids interested in in how the British version of democracy works. At the moment, it is demonstrating that it doesn't. The number of votes cast in Barnsley was 38,951 to remain a member of the EU, and 83,958 to leave the EU.The turn-out to vote was 69.95% (122,972 validated ballot papers).

Where does it mention anything about a deal. But Dan Jarvis and his Labour cronies have blatantly ignored a clear mandate from their constituency. Shameful.

My comment wasn’t’ about you, it was about Raheem Kassam. So you may need to climb down off your very high horse. And those comments were directed at the fact that in a British representative democracy, we vote for a Member of Parliament, not a Prime Minister. The House of Commons then decides who the Prime Minister is, usually, but not always the Leader of the largest party. Again, none of this is directed at you, but i’ll graciously accept your apology.

On your actual points. Are you seriously suggesting that a Ballot paper should contain the detail behind a policy? That would be a very large ballot paper. I voted ‘Leave’ for a number of reasons but one of them was because the Leave campaign said leave would be based on a deal. They are either wrong or lied or both.
On your last point about Dan Jarvis. Other threads have already dealt with the role of MPs but to reiterate, they are not in Parliament to solely ‘represent ‘ the views of their constituents. You don’t have to like or agree with that, just understand it.

 

He does want an election. In November. The only people who don't see why that is are right wing commentators or people stupid enough to take what right wing commentators say at face value.

Contrary to the rantings of the OP I actually think Corbyn has played his cards well this week. A call for an election at this point is such an obvious trap to spring a no deal brexit that only a fool would fall for it. Jezza and the other opposition parties do right to wait for the moment of maximum advantage. Keep the increasingly desperate Johnson wriggling on the hook, I say.

As for the referendum itself, it must be blindingly obvious that a referendum on major constitutional change which relies only on a simple majority just can not work - as can be seen by the difficulties in enacting it. Even if brexit happens - which is in some doubt - people on the other side of the argument (myself included) will not rest until we rejoin. The poll was flawed, and that's even before you get on to the shifting basis of the leave campaign's offering to the people - which certainly did not specify a no deal brexit. Get ready for at least ten more years of this argument, because it isn't going away.
