Jobs for the boys I would imagine. Do we go for a foreign coach again , or go brave like the football team and pick young players with a English coach

Time Roy and Bairstow were given a rest assuming we lose this test along with Buttler unless he saves the game. All 3 have been pretty useless, surely the Foakes option for wicket keeping has to be tried? Bairstow is averaging 25 this series, not good enough.

216 balls to go. We'll be fine.

It hurts but Australia deserved their win.

Now's the time for an overhaul. Try some new blood.

That said, it is annoying listening to the Aussies on the radio talking about how dominant they've been. Replace Smith with a more normal-scoring batsman and we'd probably have won both at Edgbaston and here, the rest of their batting side are mediocre at best.

We've been comprehensively outplayed throughout the series but Root will probably come out and say it was close. These players will be remembered as the first team in 18 years to lose the ashes at home to the Australians and I hope the players are embarrassed at that. A win at the oval would not paper over the huge cracks.
A full review is needed into the test match team and there should be some accountability. How Ashley Giles ended up as director of the England cricket team when he was a mediocre player and appalling coach is beyond belief.
Maybe we should look at going down the route of separate test and one day/T20 coaches.

Steve Smith was the difference between the 2 teams.

Guess the term 'cheats never win' is null and void..

The ecb went all out for 50 over champions to the detriment to the holy grail that is test cricket, those who decided this route are the people to blame

We’ve been dreadful for a long time. Hopefully a home Ashes defeat is the much needed catalyst for change.

A poxy World Cup win or the ashes, no contest

You are right and because Smith was allowed back he has single handedly beat us out of sight
Take his 211 off their first total, and 82 from second innings then what have any of the Australian batsmen done.... Nothing
They have better bowlers than us but our batsmen need looking at
Roy, Buttler, are not test batsmen but white ball men Roy is poor in field and is not tuned in , his hand placings for catches are all wrong
Archer has no discipline and bowls too many wasteful bouncers, and Root is no captain. His field placing and choice of bowlers helps them put a hundred on during game
Pointing and Shane Warne explain our faults and really good at it. So where are the England coaches during the interval.
The whole set up needs overhauling like we did with the white ball teams which won us the world cup
