You can go back to archives and pick up things that may look like this was widely discussed, but the archive does not show the big picture....the Anti Common Market League, as you can see by looking at the leaflet was a fringe organisation with little media access.
The only serious people who raised the Sovereignty question were Tony Benn, Peter Shore, Michael Foot, and Enoch Powell. Their position was rubbished by 90% of their own Parliamentary party colleagues, and the vast bulk of the media. I don't think there was a single national daily that supported leave other than the Morning Star. Don't forget of course that in those days that newspapers were the main driver...no internet or catch up tv...if you didn't see the half hour debate between Heath and Benn at 10.30 on a Tuesday night that was it...it never saw the light of day again.
The main two parties dominated the media to an extent they can't even come close to managing today...all their publications were pro remain and denied the possibilities that fringe groups were suggesting....just to add some perspective at the previous years General Election Labour and the Tories held 96% of the seats.

 

You asked it as a question and your implication was that the ROI's law on Gay Rights and Abortion are currently years behind the UK's. Since the referendum on abortion it is now a fact that the UK's laws on Gay Rights and Abortion are actually years behind the ROI's - and that is down to religion in Northern Ireland where abortion and gay marriage are currently both illegal and this is down to religious zealots controlling the agenda in your country.

Get into bed with racist homophobic bigots (the DUP) and own it. Do not try to pin stuff on another country, which after many, many tough years has finally begun to rid itself of control by the Catholic Church.

Proud to live (and after 20 years be a citizen of) a country that is moving forward, small steps maybe, but definitely moving forward.

I have no axe to grind re Ireland’s politics and have more in common with a banana than I do with the DUP so you’re way off the mark with your assumptions.

 

Fair enough - probably over sensitive to perceived criticism as there is currently a push to blame ROI for UK created problems (not you specifically, but definitely the view generally over here).

As I have loved (and continue to love) living here and raising my family here I will defend the place, despite its many imperfections..

I’m sure there must be someone who can negotiate even if it’s left to the MEPs .
Probably on the grounds of us having no working govt and therefore Brexit suspended till such time after a GE.
For me it’s inconceivable that a major policy can be triggered without representation from some sort of Government .

She also said it was a "worst case" scenario.

Unfortunately, Michael Gove last week under oath admitted it was a "base case" scenario
