Asked to sit down

I sit in the East stand upper on the back row (and have done for years). One of the reasons we are there is so we can stand up without blocking anyone’s view. Yesterday for the first time ever a steward (via the ‘’control room’’) came up and told us sit down. I was completely shocked and ******* off now I know it’s an all seater stadium and we should sit down but we aren’t blocking anyone’s view so don’t see the problem (and been stood there for several years) I’m just wondering did anyone else have the same or similar issue yesterday? I’m hoping that this was a one off just because it was a big game.

 

I "sit"on the back row of the ponty as always I was stood all game yesterday. Not a word said. Just like you that's the reason I got that seat, I prefer to stand but don't want to block anyones view of the game.

 

Thing is though, you're supposed to sit down, that's why there are seats... If something happens worth standing up for then go for it, I'm sure no one would bat an eyelid.

Not really got any sympathy for folk who've been asked to sit down when it's club policy that supporters should you know, sit down.

 

You should be able to stand at a game if you’ve got the courtesy to choose the back row for that reason.
After all, sitting down at football matches is absolutely dogshit.

 

Cant see any probs whatsoever with someone stood on the back row if just watching the game causing no trouble.

 

Me doing 90 on the M1 at midnight "causes no trouble" but I'd still expect to get pulled for it if the coppers saw me.

Rules is rules, whether you agree with them or not.

 

Do you sit darn all the time when the game is in progress? Rules are rules no matter how s hit the wordings of them are.

 

Your post suggests to me that you are not just standing up but are probably voluble and boisterous in your support too. I wonder if you have given any thought at all to whether those sitting in front of you welcome this? I certainly wouldn't. It seems fairly obvious that you would be more likely to find like-minded folk in the CK Beckett Stand.

i know rules are rules and all that. I could see dozens of other people stood up so why not make everyone sit down. I just wondered why it was this game.

 

Oh my, yes I stand on occasion...but I'm pretty sure if I was asked to sit down I wouldn't come on here whining about it.

 

If the club is to turn a blind eye to people standing at the back, how do you reckon it will be received when they ask others further towards the front to sit down? I get that you're probably not causing any issues but it has to be a blanket rule.

 

My post doesn’t suggest anything of the sort. I don’t really sing or shout unless a goal is scored (which is a rarity at the minute). Nobody usually sits in front of us for 3 rows so not sure why they would be bothered. I stand because I’m tall and my knees dig into the back of the seat in front. As I say I know rules are rules but just thought it was strange as I’ve never been asked to do so in the past 4/5 years I’ve had a season ticket.

 

He`s not really whining is he, he is just asking a question abart summat that happened to him out of the ordinary.

I'd say being asked to sit down once out of the past 100 or so games is out of the ordinary. See my earlier post for my views, not condoning it.

 

They must consider you a health and safety hazard. Are you?

 

This thread reinforces the argument for safe standing. The ponty end could be converted using the barrier seats as have been installed at other clubs. It wouldn’t be prohibitively expensive in the scheme of things. People who want to always sit would then have the option of going in the East or West stands and those who want to stand could opt for the ponty and stand as much as they like.
