So we almost broke our transfer record but the player wouldn't come.Schmidt couldn't have been our 6th or 7 th choice because we'd been after him since May.(according to Schmidt).Sticking to the same level but taking it to the next level might mean for example ,we bought Lyndsey for £350k and Pinnock for around £500k these players have been replaced by the likes of Diarby,Anderson and Halme who according to reports at the time all cost more than there predecessors. The board also mentioned talking to experienced players and there wage demands were from a different planet or words to that effect. Can I take it then that if Kone had agreed to come you would have been happy with our business?
We COULD have broken the transfer record but the club wouldn't stump up according to reports. Schmit will have no doubt been in touch with the club for months, I'm assuming probably 10 other strikers were in the same boat, fall backs. Happens at every club every window. Can you find me any reports where andersen, diaby or halme cost more than them? I must have missed that as all 3 show up as undisclosed. What is different world though? Who are we looking at to be in a different world? No one was expecting anything crazy. Just a Martin Crainey or someone of that type, it would have made the world of difference. If luton can afford crainey but we cant then I'd be gobsmacked. Had we signed Kone I'd have been very impressed, looks a helluva player. I'd be much happier, yes. However, had we still not signed ancouolenof experienced heads like the manager wanted then inwould still be critical. Were customers, it's your right to point out things that are wrong or you are not happy with.
You did say the player didn't want to come,I assume you mean Kone.So if he didn't want to come that says to me we had agreed a deal possibly breaking our transfer record.
What’s done is done. No point on dwelling in the past. Let’s hope we’ve identified more recruits for the next window cause it doesn’t take Einstein to work out where we’re lacking in the field #bestjanuarytransferwindowever2020
Yeah mate that's the reports we got told, but was it just smoke and mirrors to please the fans? I dunno. I hate having to right posts like this, I want to see us be successful. What hurts is that we seem to get so close to where we need to be and then we just get kicked right in the ********. They said to us the year we went down that they learned some very valuable lessons..... but did they?
Wish that Kone had this season's goal scoring record for us.... https://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=90090 He's banging them in.
Unfortunately footballers and agents carry more power than owners and managers. If a player wants to go for more money he will go and if a player doesn't want to come that's there right.
It was Sandro Kulenovic that we missed out on who now plays for Dinamo in the Champions League. That isn’t to say we failed to get Kone too. It’s clear we tried to bolster our options up front but failed. That is reason for some to lament but not reason for some to throw toys out the pram after losing a match that we dominated against a side who have £13million players in it.
Who knows these types of figures outside of the board and the agents involved? PC used to tell RedArmyChris stuff so he could post it on here and keep folk happy.
We are receiving transfer fees of in excess of 3/4m we are replacing them with players for less than a million the money is going somewhere it is utter ******** to suggest 1. That all of the money has gone back into the playing squad ; 2. That it was our best window ever for item 1 to hold any credence whatsoever we need to be spending big in January The transfer dealings so far by this board have in my opinion been entirely substandard and reckless with our Championship future the jury is very much out for me
If the wage bill for the current playing squad is circa 5 million then that accounts for a big chunk of it.....
True but shouldn’t the Tv money be covering the wages..... it would make more sense - given that it is the guaranteed (ish) income stream
Wasn't it 14million last time around? Why do we think it would be much different now? I agree that it accounts for a big part of it, just think its a bigger part than people might realise.
I don’t anything like have exact figures, I just made some uneducated guesses and chucked the numbers in a calculator out of curiosity. Even if my numbers are low it is a big chunk of the money people think we got for transfers and I was only working on numbers for the first team squad so the whole wage bill must be somewhat higher again.
Imho , i still believe that we have seriously under estimated what was required at this level (player wise).
