Or turns us towards the very successful policies found across Europe. That’s our modern world it isn’t the modern world for those covered by the Nordic model or great swathes of Europe.
I like the idea that I can work hard and make things better for myself, my understanding of socialism is that everybody gets the same no matter what they do - slacker or worker
For better or worse, right or wrong, I can't see labour winning a majority with Corbyn at the helm. The no clear Brexit policy will lose them votes from leavers and remainers. The closest they may get is a hung parliament and a coalition with the SNP. That however could come at the cost of a 2nd indy ref and leave the rest of the UK at the mercy of the Tories.
Its a bit of a myth private schools are the sole remit of the elite. Theres 1000s of tiny private religious schools up and down the land. Be it islamic, hindu, jewish, christian and versions of the same which dont have a pot to piss in neither do their patrons and attendees.
Ok, I apologise for the misunderstanding. The Labour Party are on about scrapping them completely though? They don’t receive a big sum of money, they’re not subsidised as you suggest. They’re given tax breaks, without which, fees would rise and the lower end would probably not be able to afford it. Now if you think social mobility should only be afforded to the disadvantaged, then I must disagree.
How to put small businesses out of business... helped by raising the minimum wage. Vote winners but without the companies, they’ll only be able to have 0 day weeks...
Genuinely don't understand this logic at all. Just because you have an asset doesn't make the cost of acquiring it go away. I have a house and when I bought it the asset was worth what I paid for it. It didn't feel cost neutral though when the mortgage payments started coming out. Same applies to the state asset, it needs to be paid for. People own that asset at the moment and need to be compensated for its loss. That's real money that needs to be borrowed. And stealing it isn't an option because it not the despised rich that own it, its every one of us (those of us in the private sector at any rate) because our pensions own it. Steal it and they steal my pension. Or buy it and pay for it. With money.
The policy is to remove tax loopholes and charitable status. I would just rather that money be spent on improving education for all rather than a pathway to private education for a minority, who's kids will do well anyway if their parents are so invested in them.
What money? If you think that the tax gained would be put into public schools, you’re dreaming. There would also be a knock on effect loss from the students who aren’t able to then attend private school. You also seem to think private schools are all like Eton... they’re not all as elitist as you seem to imagine. Maybe children of non disadvantaged should pay tax on their school uniforms as well? This is just a fake rich bashing policy to try and claw back some votes from the brexiteers. Similar to promising a 4 day week. It’s been a strange list of desperate ill thought through ideas from the Labour Party conference. Interest rates would go through the roof anyway!
32 hours a week? My wife and I would lose the family home, couldn’t afford to support the kids how we’d like who would potentially end up in worse jobs than they could’ve achieved. In fact if I was cut down to 32 hours I would probably consider it feet up time with stress/bad back (delete as appropriate) and not get cold hands for 4 months of the year. The alternative would be for my wages to increase by more than double and that is just plain silly.
Not only that, but a show of hands which the Conference Chair initially appeared to conclude had gone the other way - until the General Secretary whispered In her ear. And grave concerns being expressed that not all those in the hall were entitled to vote. Given that the mass membership appeared beforehand to be in the majority in supporting a pro-remain position, how suspect does that whole process look? Meanwhile, we have Lansman's bizarre failed attempt to unseat the Deputy Leader, whispers against the Mother of the House should she have the temerity to put herself forward for Speaker, and constant background noises and threats about de-selections. It is not the Labour Party that I have mostly voted for. And it has very little chance in my opinion of winning the swing voters who tend towards the middle ground. The Lib Dem position on Brexit gets my vote as things stand.
Your purchasing of a house is cost neutral if you end up with an asset that is greater than or equal to your outlay. Pretty basic economics. The only area where you could question nationalisation is the pension funds of some organisations.
He says he is going to substantially increase the minimum/living wage I can many companies going under or cutting staff It won’t happen anyway it is just a promise so he can get votes
Why become a skilled tradesman/site supervisor and take all the stress and expense of training for 3 years plus when you could be a labourer from school on a substantially increased minimum wage which would be similar money. You can use this scenario for front line nurses/admin staff etc The idea is mental and would bankrupt the country.
