Great report on C4 in my opinion. They are way better than the BBC news. Radio 4 is largely decent reportage, I tend to listen to them in the morning & usually get a better balance. Nicholas Soames gave a fair perspective of things "from the other side" in his interview the other morning, he is pro-leave, but was critical of BJ's language.
Those that lied to people promising them the moon on a stick, and delivering a sucked lollipop! MPs are elected to do what they consider best for their constituents. If an available Brexit is bad for their constituents, then their responsibility is to vote against it.
Nicolas Soames is not fit to be an MP. Not for his stance on Brexit but his involvement in dismissing a 100,000 +++ petition to ban grouse shooting. Looking after his multi ££££ billion wealthy landowner friends. As for the Labour Party - how LOW can they get in using Jo Cox name as a weapon. They are a total disgrace!!! The Labour Party has a hidden agenda in all this upheaval - the leadership of the Labour Party see this as a one chance opportunity to split the Conservative Party - no matter what the consequences are for democracy and the country. They will use any means necessary to achieve this. As a traditional Labour voter I will never forgive or forget this. As for C4 being balanced - LOL !!! Out of all the media organisations - some Conservative MPs will not be interviewed by C4 - that’s an indication of how biased they are. Boris should not back down in calling the Benn Act - the Surrender Act. Because that’s exactly what it is.
If the Tory party no longer meets the needs of its members then it needs to split. You can't have Europhobes and Europhiles in the same party, especially as those differences underline their thinking on other areas. (same with Labour too). No party is too big to fail, just look at the Whigs. This next GE might see a comeback from the Liberals, who were big hitters for 70 years from the 1850s to WW1. Anyone who claims to be a traditional Labour voter who claims to hate Labour because they are trying to get into power is either lying or a WUM.
And anyway who proclaims someone is a WUM - is a WHIP. As for Labour trying to get into power - nothing up with that - unless of course it’s at the expense of democracy and interests of the country. Surrender Act !!!
A Tory or Lib Dem vote is a wasted vote in these parts due to way that the voting system works. The majority are soft Labour seats.
I can see why you would have that view but imo no vote is wasted . There are more don’t vote than vote in most constituencies and a shift in this could easily offset the status quo. Look at Scotland for example, it only takes a party to get momentum and anything g can happen , The Tory’s aren’t trusted around these parts as they neglect services and don’t rein in the unscrupulous bosses or landlords etc and concentrate on the financially strong to the detriment of the weak . Years of wars had taught us that when fighting for the Empire snd the wounded or ill men thrown on the scrap heaps whilst the officers flourished . However as much as I detest the Tories I would rather everybody vote as they see fit rather than not vote at all whilst retaining my right to criticise other party’s . Also the Lib Dems and UDM shows why coalitions don’t work in this country. Both have lived off the scraps of the larger party rather than share policies and compromise on each policy rather than free Range in some whilst leaving the main ones to the bigger party . Austerity for example . There are soft Tory seats also ,Labour don’t have the monopoly on that as some seem to throw at labour .
There is more to go at Soames about than grouse shooting. If you think I was championing him, I wasn't, I was making a point about political balance, something you clearly have zero grasp of. I stopped reading after the first paragraph ...
I have read alot of his posts and although in the leave camp myself. He tries to come across as the resident BBS Tommy Robinson. He's an extremist.
Under a different type of voting system it would be easier for people to get the legislation they wanted. You could simply vote on the best manifesto every five years without the allegiance to a particular party.
I try not to put people on ignore, as it ruins my understanding of what sometimes is an interesting thread. When I read the same stuff over & over again from the same poster I just skim over it & move to the next post. We all have an angle & an agenda, but I see most people can have some sort of nuanced argument, even if I disagree with it. That surely is what makes the board interesting. Hopefully we'll have some positive football to rattle on about for the next week...
I just hope those who do attend make it safely over Jumble Lane Bridge and don't end up wanting to throw themselves off it
