.... the law of averages dictates that very soon we'll win a game 9-0 with every goal coming from the spot, and the opposition being denied at least 16 clear fouls in our box.
0/10 for us 3/10 for the opposition. We won’t get 6 pens all season Bet we ended up with about 14 against by the end of the season.
It’s that long since we’ve had one nobody will remember how to take them . Can see Cauley passing it from the penalty spot .
Well seeing as we often don't get in the box and we have defenders who lunge at players running into our box, I reckon you may be pretty close with those numbers ;-)
We should have had at least 3 pens. One v Charlton handball, one v Brentford and one last night. Honestly our fans have given up appealing because they know we have sod all chance of anything being given.
I don't recall the Charlton incident, but if you're referring to the two dives by Wilks in the other games, I think he was lucky not to be facing a suspension already.
Both Wilks dives were side by side with the defender and he just collapsed to the floor with no obvious challenge. Mads went through the back of the player (thought did get the ball), clear penalty. I thought the Leeds one was a penalty, as I thought The Charlton one was too. I agree its crap we don't get many penalties, but our style (though seems to be adapting a bit more) has been to shoot from outside the box rather than run at defenders. I'm sure Wilks will get given one at some point as he seems the only one willing to commit a player, but it helps if he doesn't theatrically fall over when a challenge hasn't been made.
I get the bit about the theatrics but it doesn’t seem to bother refs when they give decisions against us. No different to the Leeds/Charlton/Derby ones. Honestly not sure what our players have to do to get a decision because the same rules don’t apply to other teams.
As soon as one of our players goes down in the box, whoever is the Captain should instantly start screaming at the Ref for a pen. Unfortunately, our Captain is either Mowatt or Bahre and neither of them seem to like to make much noise.
I don't think we get as many penalties because of our style of play. If we're actually fouled, we might have a chance of one. The ones given against had theatrics, but they were all fouls.
I think our style of play has a bearing on the amount of penalty opportunities we create. But also I think it no coincidence that we have the such a young squad and don't get as many. It's sad to admit but gamesmanship is a huge part of football and we are very naive.
Very true TT, like or not (clearly not here, as we have a thread about it). The dark arts which include "inviting the contact" are made to look more like fouls than they really are by experienced players, who know how to exaggerate any tackle, into looking malicious. We simply dont have that experience nor do we have (as previously stated) players screaming at the ref when contact is made. Its no wonder but very frustrating that we dont get as many as the opposition.
Mowatt was chelping at the ref all night he was lucky not to get a card. Gave him rounds of the kitchen after their first goal.
We tend to check back when wide rather than trying to drive into the box and put the defender under pressure.
