Their use of the loan system for starters. And their permanent signings of experienced players another reason.
Interesting reading. Another championship club with a wages to turnover ratio of over 100% but in my opinion there is plenty of room for us to improve without emulating them completely. I think we're capable of getting bigger crowds than they do, and we don't have to spend as much on wages or transfer fees. Just doing enough to try to be competitive enough to stay up wouldn't be a bad start.
Not sure, all i can see on FFP is a club is entitled to lose upto £13 million a season (£5 million if the owner does not inject cash to cover). This suggests they do comply with his yearly injection. According to the website for every £1 of income they are spending £1.13. The FFP site also seems to say costs associated with academies(but no age limit quoted) etc do not contribute towards FFP, so would suspect players registered as first team squad players would. Having said that if the 60% you quoted is correct you would think not as their playing wages sit at £15 million, which is £2 million more than income.
Indeed, I think its another example of what Redrain was trying to highlight of the challenge the club have financially.
We also dont look at players with a view to how good they are to improve the team, we look at them to see how good they are so we can sell them. Are the team getting gradually better, with better players been signed.....well we will never ever know as the second they become any good, we sell at the first weak offer.
But in Charlton's case they haven't signed lots and lots of experience and their use of the loan system is mainly for securing youngsters, I think? And in signing Bree they got experience, but they also lost both their full backs to Premier League teams. One could challenge if Bree is a downgrade just like we'd probably all say all the centre back signings are downgrades on Pinnock.

I mentioned Charlton specifically as Luton have definitely gone a couple of levels above us on experience recruitment wise. Where's masses of Championship experience in those signings? It isn't really there is it?

Reading the thread it appears that the board are to blame because they haven,'t brought in loans or older players on big wages or ensured that all the new signings hit the championship running or spent millions of their own money or over spending millions of the club money putting it in to debt. They did though sell 2 players who wanted to leave to make the club financially secure for the next few years before their contracts expired and they went for nothing, they let Moore go again for big money who a lot believe wasnt championship standard. The board did fail to replace Moore by missing out on their main targets but may be coming to Barnsley isnt the massive pull we all think it is.
You are right i dont but as much as the last few performances have annoyed me, woodrow and the players getting abuse annoys me more. I think the thread shows that its not that easy but in principle if we can drop fortunate with injuries, signings and coaching, stay up first and foremost then improve year on year thats the way we would want our club to be run and not iby mproving other teams players by loans or paying journey mens wages. Its been a tough start, i would have kept Pinnock and i would have brought in a new striker but it hasnt worked out like that, the seasons not over if it was we would start over again next season and go again. No one knows what would happen maybe Vic and George Miller will comeback world beaters. Just a lot of the stuff posted doesnt help anyone and no one can explain the blame as i asked in the title. What exactly have the board done wrong? and what exactly should they have done? because for every response there is a counter arguement.
I don't think there has been much criticism of the players on here. On Facebook yes, and a minority at the game yesterday also. Most of us accept they're not good enough, but let's be fair. They should be able to mark opposing players and pass to players on same team. As for what have the owners done wrong? Bearing in mind the groundhog day performances and 1 win in 12 league and cup games, what is it that you think they're doing right? I've explained what I think they're doing wrong. They're not taking any pride in what they're putting out on the pitch. They haven't got a clue how us regular feel, and never will.
I try to think of it in what would i do in Conways position, Would i sign some young loan players and would this restrict the progression of our own young players? How could i guarantee any signings would be a quick success in the championship? How would I have kept Pinnock? Do i risk my clubs future on spending more money than I bring in? Which experienced players out there would improve us and want to come and how much in wages should i pay not to disrupt the rest of the squad? Would another coach get more out of this squad playing a different style? What can i offer a big name striker to come here? Big crowds, lots of media coverage, pushing for promotion, big wages. Is the team performing poorly my fault? Have we got a chance of staying up and will i try to sign someone in January or shall i just sell woodrow? If we can stay up this season can we slowly improve year on year.? Sorry for the repetitive ****** that i keep churning out but im after someone to set out actual facts of what the board should have done but be specific not just sign better players as all things need taking in to consideration. Thats my last comments on this subject honest.
All good points, and I don't disagree with anything you say really, although as things are, we've a chance of getting relegated, losing a solidarity payment, tv money and seeing a drop in season ticket sales. As for debt, there is risk involved in most business activity. Most of us rely on a bit of finance by way of a loan or an overdraft. The key is to not to rely upon it permanently. Use it to your advantage. Speculate to accumulate! As I posted earlier, Preston don't get great crowds considering their position and quality, and that's backed up by comments on their own forum today. I actually think there is more potential at BFC, but they won't tap into it the way things are. They have to grab the imagination by improving the product.
Only three of those started the game on Saturday and do they really have masses of experience? Maybe how recognisable their names are makes you think they've played more than they have. Williams has featured in less than 30 games at Championship level in five years, Matthews has one full season of appearances in that awful Sunderland team that was relegated, and as experienced as Amos is I don't think the lack of goalkeeper experience is hurting us right now. Leaves Pratley, Hemed and Pearce and the latter has less than 50 appearances at Championship level.
Just because he is a nice fella and engages well with the fans, does not make Stendel immune from criticism. If Morais had put out a team, regardless of age, with such poor organisation, he would quite rightly have been heavily criticised. We had a poor start to the season, especially away from home, where one ball over the top led to a goal. We have conceded so many on the counter, he made a change at Wigan to add a bit of protection in front of the back four where we secured our only point. Although not his ideal position, Sibick, did his job and there were signs of improvement which went into the Forest game, where we were unfortunate not to get a point. I'm not convinced about Brown on the right.....in league one, yes his pace was an asset but he can't beat a man or cross the ball and since coming back into the side has been ineffective IMO. Bahre is not a left sided midfield player for me and relying on McGeehan and Mowatt in midfield is not going to be good enough when the other team have the ball. We seem to start well enough and press but this soon wears off (due to natural instincts) and we become so easy to play against, giving good players time and space. Not only do we lack experience but we are not setup right to compete at this level. We don't have good enough players to play 4-4-2 out of possession. We need better organisation and teamwork to offset the clear individual superiority of the opposition, who have more championship standard players. It is the head coach's job to get the best out of what he has in terms of his resources. We can all agree that the recruitment policy has not helped and other clubs have financial advantages, but personally I have been disappointed with Stendel so far and his inexperience at this level is also showing IMO.
