I know we need experience at the moment - that’s without doubt.

But as some players have confidence issues, are there any emerging talents in our Academy who could step-up if required? Even if just for the bench or to come on for last 20mins.

Im not saying it’s the answer, and I’m aware of pitfalls as well as positives, but I just wondered what we’re like in that department internally - mainly defenders.

Don't think throwing more kids into the first team squad is the answer.

    Well yeah, true. Lol.

My genuine query was how do we stand in our academy in terms of progress of the defensive players.

There was a time where we had Stones, Holgate and Bree who despite their lack of experience all came in and stepped up to the plate. Although all under less of a ‘pressure cooker’ atmosphere.

Not really saying we should, just wondered where we stood as an academy in terms of central defenders.

We signed a lot of central defenders this summer, but not once did we promote from within in that position. That’s I wondered what we have got.

I used to follow the academy in more detail a few seasons ago, but have dropped off a bit.

I’ve not watched them personally but from what I’ve been told the keepers are all pretty decent, Simoes looks very good & Odour has also impressed when he’s played.

I think if any were good enough to be playing they would be as Stendel was happy to put Ben Williams in ahead of both Fryers & Pinillos last season

Probably right. I think Jasper Moon and Sam Fielding are the 2 main centre backs. Same as you though - not seen them play.
