Watched a very interesting interview with Roy Keane and Gary Neville (It's on you tube). It was shot in Ireland in September and shows him in a completely different light to his media stereotype. He's desperate to get back into management and seems to have learnt from his previous mistakes. He's still an opinionated sod but if he had the right number 2 I can't help but think he's a lot to offer. The likes of Parkinson and Adkins will no doubt be early favourites along with Redders but can't help but think he's a guy the young players will look up to and follow. Stendel will go down in history with the club as a great. He came in shook the team up and had them playing amazing football. I will always be eternally thankful to him. I think his unwavering belief in the press and lack of pragmatism cost him. The board also have blame attached for not bringing in an experienced spine. However any new gaffer needs to demand experienced players. The model works but you can't have 11 nippers starting every week. Top teams have an experienced spine that lets the kids get on with it whilst they help dictate the game. Keane would attract senior pros who want to be here for the challenge. Just my thoughts, criticism and down right rude counter arguments welcome. I forgive you it's been a rough 3 days.
Nigel Adkins, did a great job getting Hull going last season, repaired his reputation a little bit but really can't see him working within our model tbh. Parkinson, no ta, handled himself very well during all the difficulties at Botlton but not the style of football I want to watch. Who did Keane last manage outright? I know most recently he was assistant to Martin O Neill at Nottingham Forest and before that the Republic of Ireland.
Ipswich before big Mick Mac, did a good job at Sunderland. Worked under O'Neil for past 6 years. Record mixed as manager but after playing under Clough and Fergie that's gotta rub off.
I couldn’t imagine anyone worse to bring on a group of young players than Roy Keane. A man who doesn’t understand the meaning of the word patience who expects everyone to be as good as him
One other thing with Keane is he would settle in quite nicely. He says it as he sees it, the very description of the average Barnsley person. Not sure if new owners would like that mind!
I watched it, he’s great to listen to on Sky & at events like this but I just can’t imagine him been good with young players. The only place he’s ever had success was at Sunderland where he spent a fair bit of money on experienced players he’d mainly worked with before
I think that's a very astute observation. I've watched quite a few Roy Keane interviews because he's a very interesting human being. He's intelligent and sharp and, like most of us, flawed. Like you said, he expects everyone to be as good as he was. Well I'm sorry Roy, we weren't blessed with genius like you were. And I know you worked bloody hard to get there, I'm not taking that away from you, but we could work even harder than you and not get anywhere close. If someone slogs their guts out, gives their all, tries their best, they don't deserve criticism. You'd give it because they didn't reach your standards. When only half a dozen people on earth can reach those standards, that's not a reasonable expectation. And that's why you're not in management.
I have a very good army m8 who's son, a lad called Connor Wicham was at Ipswich a few years ago as a young but good striker, apparently Keane was hated by most of the players and staff and was nothing but a bully
Ive heard the same and that his people skills are less than zero. Thankfully he would be well out of pay grade!
I think there something in this Roy Keane likes dogs chien lee chien is French for dog ... I’m off to the bookies... woof
Cant stand him. As others have said hes OBE that can do jo wrong while quick to castigated others. And definitely a bully. I'd rather have Ole!
