Mature players sprinkled with a few promising young loan players. Only flaw was when a good young loan player became available for a permanent transfer, Patrick didn’t have enough money to buy them. Consequently some brilliant players have slipped through the net at Barnsley. All what was needed was new owners with enough money to step in and compete, just a little bit, in the transfer market. What we got was new owners that threw the baby out with the bath water. My advice to the new owners is to revert back to the PC blueprint of recruitment.
They won’t spend a penny of their own cash pal, as they haven’t since taking over. They make me feel sick what they’re doing to our club.
They will. They have to. Because it’s a team game. And as a team game the development of players often relies on other players around them.
It wasn't Patrick's strategy. That was the strategy of the football manager at the time. Davey & Robins. Then we changed strategy because it was costing too much money and went down this path bit by bit instead. With Hill we dipped our toe in then bit more with Wilson before we jumped off the big diving board with Johnson and everyone else.
I hope to god your right but I wouldn’t hold my breath if I was you. Just look at the outgoings/ incomings for evidence of frugality.
I’d love to know how we did our scouting when Davey was here. Colace, Diego León, Dennis Souza, Mosstto, Christensen etc
