............if you have a closed mind, but please do if there is a smattering of your inner self which is prepared to listen to an alternative view into the matter at hand.
I wanted to summarise my current feelings as a way of signing out on the hot topic of DS leaving as I feel like a hamster in a never ending wheel unsuccessfully trying to make the same point. Since I took semi-retirement at the end of March this year I never thought I'd be spending as much time on here as I have the last few days. I blame the Board!!

    Context
I'm a fan of 60 years. The only reason I mention that is because I know and feel the emotion out there. I share it. It's not me trying to say that my dick is bigger than anyone else's. I also know what my Dad taught me:
    * Always listen.
    * There are two sides to every argument.

    Daniel
What a wonderful human being. I wish he was my brother. Having him in our lives for that part of our lives which we hold dear has been like we've been living in a wonderful never ending springtime summer. I love him. I don't think British football (sorry......soccer) has seen the like of him before.
I wish him and his family well for the future and if he does end up managing in this country again (quite likely I think) I hope he's successful, with the obvious exceptions of course.
But....I've said it before and I will say it again: Just because he's a wonderful human being does not in any way make him a successful Championship football manager and we shouldn't forget....that's why he was here.
Love him as I do, his tactics have been questionable to say the least this season. Just have a look at Red Rains analyses and you can learn why. (we do play 4231 by the way and not 433)
Lovely people lose their jobs sometimes. And then life moves on. Could he have helped us survive? The jury is out for me.

    The Statement
Universally condemned and clearly I can understand why. However, this is where my opinion starts touching a few nerves (possibly Vesper and Durkar Red aside). On the face of it it was crass. Of course, an additional line thanking him for his services would not have been too much to ask for. However, and this is the thrust of my argument, none of us know what actually went on. People are jumping to conclusions without knowing what went on. If you were being charged with a crime and the jury didn't take into account all the facts would it be fair? The Board have been charged by many of you. Let them construct their response before cutting their throats.
I've issued statements from a Business perspective where the departing Employee has not been thanked. Sometimes there are sound moral reasons for taking such an approach. Hope to goodness that's not the case here.
Regarding the board not getting up off their arse and putting out a follow up, then we should all just hold our horses for the minute and calm down. I would be very surprised if they weren't at work drafting something else as we speak. Lets judge that content when we see it.

    The Board
For heaven's sake stop shouting "Sack the Board" from the rooftops! What good does it do? Who will take over? How can they sack themselves?
Well, they can actually, indirectly, they can run the club down and sell it. But who would buy the club? The fans? Gimme a break!
How long did it take Patrick to find a suitable Buyer?
If anyone else has an alternative then for God's sake shout up!! If not then please STFU because its pointless noise.

    The Xenophobia
Again, turn down the volume guys. If I owned a business and turned up for work every day to be met with a constant tirade about how **** I am because of where I'm from I might just think about packing my bags.
Nudger gets some stick on here but if you've not seen one of his latest posts then have a look. A voice of reason in a febrile sea of hostility. Well done Nudge cocker.

The Petition / Protests / The Swansea game
I will protest against the things which I disagree with and feel strongly about. I love a good protest . It's one of the great things about being British. The opportunity to protest peacefully. So, I've marched for gay rights, anti-fascism, anti Thatcher, anti Brexit (sorry) etc...However I have never protested against something about which I didn't know the facts. That's why I will not be screaming to sack the Board against Swansea, and why I will not be signing the very badly worded petition which has been posted on here (sorry Stahlrost old friend; a friend who I know loves BFC as much as anyone I know)
As part of the current "protest" lots of people (including some who I hold close to my heart) are thinking about not going anymore. I want them to continue going but they have to act according to their conscience.
I have only ever thought about not attending on two occasions:
    1. I've thought about not going to away games due to the drunken abusive aggressive idiot morons who have rightly been called out on here, and
    2. Now.
I will not attend any more if this hostility carries on, particularly if its carried on into games. In games where we have recruited a group of hungry young players who are undoubtedly very talented, but who need organising and shaping, and who are giving their all for the club. And I do agree with the need for mebbe 2/3 experienced heads.

    Summary
My daughters tell me that I am a grumpy old ******* but through all that I still hold true to my old man's advice and never more so than now.
We should listen to what the Club have to say when they are ready to say it and we should try and understand their side of this thing which is driving a wedge between us as fans. Oh and its not their fault that the wedge is there. Its because we're all invested in this thing and its because we care.
Once we know more, then that's the time to make a call.

That's my full stop on this thing.

Out if interest could you cite an example that could possibly apply as to the morals that would stop a thank you on a statement ?

Pretty similar thoughts here. Good post.

The phrase ‘genuinely devastated’ is becoming irksome. I mean, if this is devastating, then life has been easy on you so far - get ready.

Just because people disagree with you, it doesn't mean they didn't read/listen what you had to say, digest it and then consciously have a different view.

    Lots in the business world.

In this specific incident, we’ll either find out or not. But there will be a reason. Could be contractual also. If the contractual position has not been finalised, it’s best to say nothing.

Excellently written, and I'm not being sarcastic or anything there, I genuinely mean it.

I agree with a large part of what you've said, it is all very sensible. Where our views diverge are (1) I don't know what about Stendel's record means people think that he may not have been a good Championship manager. For me, and many others, it was painfully, and oh so painfully obvious that the new recruits are out of their depth. Stendel cannot be blamed for a inability to do the job because he's being asked to dig to china with a teaspoon.

If, IF, it was to materialise that he'd been meeting with Sunderland behind our backs then I would think less of him and have a sense of betrayal. It would take some balls to behave like that though and turn up for beers with the fans!

Agree about calling for the board. It's daft and we'd be in the doo-doo if they decided to sack it all off. I understand where the sentiment comes from though.

The board have massively misjudged the mood of the fans and made fools of themselves as a result. Unless Daniel had been caught interfering with children then I cannot think of a single reason why you cannot at least have the basic decency to thank someone who left his family and did so much for us.

It is just basic manners and common decency and he deserved more. Thankfully the fans gave him more but the owners are woefully lacking on class in my view.

I will have my own mini-protest. I'm not going to the Swansea game, I hope others don't go. I realise it's futile, I realise the team need support. I realise that the club will always be there and staff are transient, but it's a little thing I can do to make my point to the owners.

You’re not the only grumpy old sod on here - I myself believe I’ve spent 65 years improving my skills in that area.
I wholeheartedly agree with your post

Im not a granny but i do know how to suck eggs but thank you anyway.
I know that people read, digest and disagree. I also know that that is a healthy thing.
In addition my one brain cell also acknowledges that you have a different view and you should know that I respect that.

Well I'm glad you said the latter, because it wasn't evident to me that was the case. So thank you.

Can't disagree with any of this.

I've said a few times now that I'm keeping my powder dry till the end of January & we'll see where we are then. If we keep selling players like Pinnock & replacing them with players like Halme I'll be sitting the rest of the season out, as it will already effectively be over.

I strongly agree with holding off with protests, as it won't help anyone in the short term.

At the moment DS has claimed the moral high ground in his actions since his departure. Things may change I suppose as facts come to hand. I think by the end of January we'll have a better idea where the current consortium intend to take us. As yet, I'm not too impressed, but the jury is still out. They did after all appoint DS & have made some improvements around Oakwell on a match day.
