Problem with this argument is that we keep making professional fouls. Lots and lots of them and most of them are worthy of a booking. There were a couple of decisions tonight that were flat out wrong, but how do we put forward a defensible case when our discipline is shocking? Dear FL, we would like to complain about a couple of very poor decisions to book our players in the game against WBA on 22/10/2019. Dear Barnsley, what do you expect? If you're going to make 20 professional fouls every game then you're going to get players booked. While we agree a couple of the decisions to book Barnsley players were extremely harsh, you got away with another 10 that could easily have been bookings. And it's every game. Sort your players out, it's getting ridiculous.
I'd probably only dispute 2 or 3 of our yellows, but what took the piss is the Albion players who stopped us counter attacking all the first half only got 2 yellows, for virtually identical offences. I'm not surprised though, usual bias.
We committed 20 fouls in total, so about 1 in 3 of those resulted in bookings, with Collins booked for time wasting and Brown for kicking the ball away. It was excessive and the ref was poor. He managed the game very poorly, especially second half.
I think you're going too deep into it. Tonight, in isolation, we came up against a biased referee. He genuinely booked Cavare for getting fouled. And didn't book Livermore who put in a sliding tackle from the side that took out Brown's ankles. Do I think he was biased on purpose? Probably not. But biased he was. But I'm not saying there's a crusade against us. I don't think we're the best disciplined side. But tonight, the referee got his cards out far too early which never ends well for them. He was also influenced terribly by the home crowd.
Whilst he got some decisions wrong I approve of his type of refereeing in that whenever anybody time wasted or committed a professional foul he booked them. I like that. The problem is we’ll probably be chasing a game in the near future & we’ll get a different ref who won’t book our opponents for time wasting. It’s the inconsistency that’s frustrating.
I don't have a problem with most of our bookings - they were either for time wasting for stopping counter attacks late on. Apart from Cavare who's booking was bizarre. Livermore and Sawyer however both produced shocking tackles that could and should have been punished more severely.
It’s the consistency that’s the huge issue here. I can accept there was a case for most of the yellows Though not the Cavare and McGeehan ones. And also usually refs don’t book almost every foul which seemed to be the case second half. But several similar offences by WBA didn’t get a booking. The one on Brown a particularly extreme example. But also how many games have we seen at Oakwell where a side commits foul after foul stopping play and nothing happens. Or timewaste in the way Collins was and either not be booked or get booked in injury time. Only positive for me is we didn’t get any red cards
BFC don't need to raise a complaint with the FA... "In a game of 11 bookings, eight of them were for Barnsley, which earns them an automatic date with the Football Association's disciplinary department." They should be talking to the referee not Barnsley. BFC need to take a video to the hearing of the bad tackle on Brown which preceded an obstruction on Cavare a couple of minutes later near the halfway line which earned him a booking!! Farcical decision. Out of 8 bookings, 3 or 4 at most (2 of which were for time wasting) were justifiable. Albion should have had at least the same number but their fouls seemed to be overlooked by the incompetent/biased (you choose) referee.
