It’s the sort that sets you back years. If people think we can just recover from it like we have done after recent relegations and just get back within a 1-2 year timescale then I suspect they’re in for a rude awakening. It’s clear now that we’re going to be embarrassed this year. I’ve been supporting the team for 35 years and genuinely can’t think of an equivalent, a season where we’re going to be all but mathematically relegated by Christmas and look on track to break club records of games without a win and low points totals. It’s the sort of humiliating season that turns kids off watching the team, sends young people to watch the Fritzls or Leeds because we’re an embarrassment to be associated with. I’m f.cking hating it. The squad that’s been assembled is a total disgrace, and yet it’s impossible to be angry at the team because individually they’re mostly going to be decent players but they’ve been thrown in with a heinous lack of on-field leadership and yes, experience. Shame on the recruitment team and shame on the board for putting us in this disgraceful position. Shame on them for making it so hard to be proud to be a Barnsley fan.
It is embarrassing and very painful to watch. I keep hoping we have turned a corner but today was shocking. My daughter was so looking forward to the match as we live in Holmfirth so she is surrounded by Town fans and she was desperate for us to turn up, instead she is now going to be ridiculed at school and doesn't want to go to the match on Friday, as she said, what is the point, we never win. You are right, we are going to put younger generations off and that takes years to repair. It's in my blood and it was starting to draw her in after last season but this season has just been woeful and joyless. Something has to give.
Incredible how so much good work from last season has been undone in such a short amount of time Felt like our performances, style of play, number of goals scored etc etc did wonders for engaging a new generation of fans and probably rekindling something within some who may have previously distanced themselves from the club, for whatever reason, but I agree this season could well cause untold damage Absolutely unforgivable the way everything has turned out
No, I managed 35 years without finding it hard as well. I might struggle to be proud of this year’s 26 point total though.
I'm honestly just sick of the same old ****. We're never going to be able to compete at this level because whoever's in charge just sells our better players and the new ones are never good enough. Other teams manage it but we don't. Our owners won't invest any of their money so we're going to be a league 1 side with the odd season up here, losing at the same old sh1tholes like Loftus Road, The John Smith's and Hillsborough, before selling anything of value and starting again. Get used to it.
Excellent post, agree with everything you say! My 6 year old lad can't be arsed and he's suppose to be part of the future generation!
The clubs hidden agenda of preparing for life in league one with what they deem as more experienced saleable assets is becoming more apparent and this is what i don’t wish to be part of anymore. It’s like they don’t care how much the club is being disconnected with the fans We as fans shouldn’t accept this and it’s a disgrace to think we will
We now live in Shepley, so not far from you! My father in law is a dirty Leeds fan but everyone else on the wife's side are big town fans. I've been ridiculed! Town fans don't have any sympathy for us and our young squad, basically the feedback is we're sh*t and the worst team in the League. I have no comeback to that, Huddersfield are bang average but we're something else. I pray we they don't beat us at Oakwell in January. My six year old can't be arsed and the wife's side are trying to get him interested in town :-(.
Thank god it's half term, she's had stick on social media but hopefully will die down so she doesn't have to hang her head in shame, we made them look good today.
We’ll have to improve on the current run rate then. Which I struggle to see once Cauley leaves in January.
I work in Huddersfield, suspect my Barnsley mug will have some smiley faces added, and we play them at Oakwell on my birthday, yay! They have no sympathy, they just look down on us.
The last time I went to Huddersfield we were panned 5-0 with a team far worse then the one I saw today. We were relegated that season. Since then we’ve had 2 promotions and another relegation. Based on that what makes you think this time it’s somehow the end of the world?
Because then, just like Liverpool, Real Madrid, Crewe and Rochdale, we had hope that we were always aiming for the stars, irrespective of how bad it was on that particular day. It's why we bother as fans. Now we don't. I don't have any confidence that the board want the same thing as I do.
