Wow! What a fantastic reply from dales Tyke. Thank you for that mate.
I really can't put it any better. Only to add that Nicola has had a few trips to Brussels over the past few months testing the EU on their appetite for having an independent Scotland join and their response has been positive.

I wasn't a great fan of Scottish independence when they had their referendum, mainly for the fact that "stronger together" is something i really believe in. Similarly with brexit, im no massive fan of the EU but we are better off working together than alone. i had a few run ins with Ian about it, even though i could see why he and many others would want it, i personally didn't think it would benefit them,

who am i to tell them what they want though, why not have a go. I wouldn't want to stay joined to this festering country any minute longer than i had to the way we have gone over the past 3 years, good luck to every scot, every welshman and everyone who gets out.

Likewise not a huge fan, However the media coverage is nothing short of disgusting at times. I mean even the BBC now cut him off mid flow in Westminster. But give that numpty Blackford too much coverage.

Is Ian Blackford a numpty because he tells it like it is and this is not what you want to hear?

He doesn't say it how it is at all. It's all about personal gain with that idiot, likewise with a lot of MPs mind. Oh and to answer the final section of your question, in a nutshell yes.

Personal gain? You'll have to explain that one to me. I only hear him talk of what is good for Scotland. At least you are honest over what you want and don't want to hear.

My personal opinion is that it would be very difficult for an independent Scotland to gain entry into the EU but given the state of UK politics who could blame them for trying? Where Ms Sturgeon and Mr Blackford's arguments often come unstuck for me, and I've said this to Ian's face and lived to tell the tale, is that they seem to deliberately fudge this whole "equal partner" argument. Clearly Scotland's people deserve equal representation to those from the other countries within the union but that doesn't mean their arguments should carry equal weight to those of the union as a whole, i.e. Scotland shouldn't expect special treatment from the rest of the UK where a vote has been taken at UK level as was the case with the EU referendum. My understanding, and please correct me if I'm wrong about this, is that the UK is a single member state in the eyes of the EU and not a collection of separate countries so that is the level at which that referendum had to be called and its result considered.

Having said that, I've spent a fair bit of time in Scotland over the last few years and my view has softened significantly towards Scottish independence. I don't believe it would be financially beneficial for them but then again I don't think the recent actions of the UK as a whole are financially beneficial for them either and I can see how if it came to that they might prefer to suffer from their own mistakes rather than ones they felt railroaded into as part of a union in which the simple population difference will always make them a minority partner. The same argument could be made for any subset of constituencies, of course, but there is a clear cultural and historical line to be drawn between the individual countries of the union and if I were the SNP right now I'd be trying every trick in the book to draw that line too.

That's my feeling exactly. And now that Scottish independence looks like being my only chance of retaining an EU passport, I'm all for it. Plus as you said, the inclusive values of Scotland seem to reflect my personal values far more than those of many in England right now. It is somewhat sad that I have no intention of moving back to England right now. But to an independent, progressive Scotland? Well that's something that could be rather exciting. Apart from the fcking weather!

You're right there mate, although I think the Scots had no small part in it.

There are a lot of people (like Rees-Mogg) who seem to think we can go back to the Great Days of Empire and rule the world. We're all in for a shock.

You raise an interesting point there, Boris is much more friendlier than Johnson which creates a whole new connotation.

Absolutely Brush, of course many Scots involved, and sorry I should have said British Empire. But I think you knew what I was getting at as your second paragraph says it all.

This is it with all the mainstream TV and media coverage. Never before has the BBC political team been more pro- Govt. Laura Kuenssberg (sp) is a disgrace. She opened up a recent bulletin by saying, ‘Boris has got his way’ no mention of locating a ditch where he might choose to die in as promised if Brexit wasn’t delivered on October 31st. I despair about the poor quality of political commentators on mainstream TV at the moment. We all know all we are going to see up to Election Day is largely anti-Corbyn/ Labour stuff.

You have to look at it the other way too. These activities are generated by a mix of fear and favour. Fear that they may not be given privileged information, and the favour of being first to scoops and exclusives. It's not right at all, but there are examples in several journalists that are asking punchier questions. Beth Rigby on Sky and Lewis Goodall (also sky) are both surprisingly standing against some of the assertions "no 10" are putting over to the public. But I certainly agree the BBC has become more a water carrier of messages from the government rather than a serious journalist reporting on events and posing the right questions, irrespective of party.

I hope they get it, I read prior to the last Scottish referendum that 70% of English people fully supported Scotland leaving, me included
