We as fans have got use our influence somehow to rid us of this Var before it is introduced in the lower leagues.Goaline tech great,offside ruling a joke,handball laughable,diving subjective and refs making twice more errors than before because there terrified of being overruled in the wendy house of stockley park.But the biggest thing is if we lose the fans reaction and passion when a goal is scored we might as well stay home and sit with the pro var armchair fans watching gillette soccer special
In its current format I agree with you, it's terrible. However I reckon it can be fantastic but only if they give the managers the choice to actually have the ref check VAR - 2 checks per half something like that, because the chance are the checks will only be used by the manager for things such as, goals, fouls in penalty situation etc. If they use it like that brilliant in my opinion, as it's currently used ruining football.
And to Time waste in a close game? If its used the ref needs a mic so we can listen to their logic when making a call, also like in the Southampton game when they showed the crowd the replay of the red card against Leicester, there's no argument then. So for me those two easy fixes will make Var a lot more practicable. Mic's and replay's. Another rule id introduce is that if you have to review a replay more than twice its not clear and obvious so the original decision stands.
I like the idea that each team can ask for a limited number of decisions to be reviewed. Offside could very easily improved by the use of the right technology. The players are already microchipped for monitoring distance run etc.
Some good suggestions for reform on this thread. i think we need to look at how it is used in Rugby Union, where on the whole it seems to work OK.

Why reform something thats basically worked for 100yrs for something thats no better and kills the atmosphere.Rugby,cricket and tennis are not the same full stop.The majority of vars in rugby are for when the ball is under a pile of bodys and the game has stopped.It just shows how bad it is when the opinions of top players,managers and presenters have changed in such a short time.Bin it before its too late.
Could easily fix the time wasting by reducing the length of a match but pausing the clock every time play stops. Should be done anyway in my opinion.

I disagree. For this reason I cant ever get into American football. The game will be littered with advertisements, way worse than time wasting and VAR.
This. Goal line technology is enough for me. Ditch VAR and spend the money on improving refereeing standards across all four divisions.
I think that in the top flight it hasn't worked, as every TV viewer can watch replays on Sky / MOTD, etc from various angles. It seems right that in the top division & playoff final matches the officials should be given access to the same sort of technology. There needs to be a rethink how it's done though. It seemed to work better at the World Cup than it has done thus far in the Premier League.

If football accepted some of its failings and cherry picked things that work in other sports it would find a fan friendly option that worked. Football isn't unique and its refereeing ambiguity and errors are not unique. Its belief that it is better at everything than all other sports however is pretty unique.

You have to remember that the PGMOL (who provide referees in England and is led by Mike Riley) refuse to follow the protocol set out by the IFAb (who make the rules). Every other country using VAR follow the protocol but the PGMOL (backed by the weak FA) refused to do so so what we see in England is improper use of the technology.
Microchips covering the whole body for offsides,straightjackets to stop handballs,crash helmets to reduce head injuries and cardboard cutout fans to finish it off.
Out of interest, how will throwing money at it improve refereeing standards? My opinion, for what it's worth is that VAR per se isn't wrong necessarily. How we've adopted it here is sub-optimal.
My reply to you was poorly phrased. The 'football is better than other sports' bit was a pop at the way FIFA, UEFA and the FA conduct themselves, treat supporters, governments and other sports and I wasn't trying to put words in your mouth. Apologies if that's how it came across.
