It’s that time of the season again where he will be getting dogs abuse from up and down the country. However it falls against us on Saturday in the game where the eyes will be on him. I don’t think I’ve ever witnessed a player refuse to wear the poppy or not acknowledge the minute of remembrance at oakwell before so it will be a first for me. Even though I don’t agree with his stance I appreciate why he doesn’t wear one, so how do you think the crowd will react to him if he plays on Saturday?
I wear my poppy with pride. However, I have no problem with others not doing so, it's their right. If McClean, or anyone else, doesn't want to wear a poppy, that's fine as far as I'm concerned.
I agree with every word. I will also have mine on show with pride. I won’t react in anyway to his decision to not wear one, however with it being the first time it’s happened at oakwell (i think) it’d be interesting to hear how others would react.
When you say he won't acknowledge the minute of remembrance. What do you mean? What will he do? Surely he will just stand in silence. Can't imagine him making a scene through it.
All of our players, except Bambo Diaby, had a poppy on their shirts on Friday. He clearly chose to not have one. So McLean might not be alone.
If I was in his shoes I probably wouldn’t wear one either. I really hope our fans don’t boo him but no doubt a few idiots will
To be honest I worded that part abit wrong, I don’t know if he acknowledges it or not, I’ve never seen it before. I would expect him and others to respect the silence but to not wear a poppy is their right.
Is that true? Although we shouldn’t need any explanation as to why he wouldn’t wear one it would be interesting to know why.
It’s not true, no. I asked about the poppies on shirts thing at the club shop today and apparently some of them came off before the game, some during, and a number of players changed shirts at half time as they were soaked.
It is definitely true that he didn’t have a poppy on his shirt Friday, I didn’t notice any other player in our team that didn’t. Including the subs. It can only have been player choice you’d imagine.
Here is a photo of him a few minutes into the game when Watkins did his first dive...... It soon dropped off if you are right....More likely he chose not to wear one.
It's a relatively recent thing expecting everyone to wear a poppy , silences on days other than Remembrance Sunday or Armistice day. Imo it shouldn't be a big issue surely?
A lot of younger people don't get the poppy thing, seeing it as more glorifying war, rather than support for our armed service people, who it goes to support. I always buy one, but I'm 54 & from an older generation. Maybe the message needs to be made clearer that we still have a lot of veterans from recent conflicts, like the Falklands / Iraq, etc?
Bambo noticeably didn’t have one at the start of the game. It isn’t at all feasible that this was purely as it fell off. No criticism of Diaby, his choice, but I’m calling ******** on whoever said that in the club shop.
