I think this is right

 

We all, as fans, want better for our club. And there were some false glimmers of hope when we were taken over by 'multi billionaires'.
But, sadly, I think you are spot on with this.
I think our long term hope is for FFP to start weeding out, and punishing, the club's operating outside of FFP, at which point self-sufficient clubs, like ourselves, could then maybe flourish.
But that would be a long, long term plan so I could be way off the mark.

 

We are risk-averse only in the sense that we will stay within our financial budgets, which is perfectly sensible to me.

The transfer policy of buying untried youngsters on long term contracts and chucking them in at the deep end, without any experienced players around them, is as risky as it gets in my opinion, as our current league position shows. So I wouldn't say this lot are risk-averse at all.

 

It's true that increased investment, premiership parachute payments and (reckless) spending by other clubs has pushed us from our traditional position to that of a yo-yo club. If there was an easy solution to this we'd have found it by now. That's not to say everything is being done right but it's a fact.

 

Not really, because the owners' strategy almost relies on being relegated so the intake can shine in League One and then increase in saleable value. They don't expect the club to survive in the Championship - so to that extent it isn't really a risk at all.

 

If thats the case why not come out and say that rather than guff about how all transfer money will go towards more players?

The only thing I can add to that is I believed what Dane and Beth said that night.
I can't claim to be immune from believing bullshlt, but I'm not a mug either. I didn't hear any bullshlt. I listened to two people whose integrity I trusted and whose sincerity I believed.

That doesn't mean I necessarily agreed with their opinions based on the facts that they revealed nor does it mean that trust is extended to our owners who weren't present and I've never met.

 

The third tier would seem to be our natural home in financial terms, but that’s hard to take for many of us who have experienced a team so competitive in the second tier for many years. I do, however, still believe that it was possible to be more competitive this season with better recruitment, still sticking to our budget constraints.

I don’t want to see the club take high risks and put themselves heavily into debt, but they’re still not exempt from criticism for the shambolic efforts this season.

 

If the belief of league one to shine were true, we would be better to be like Peterborough where you live in and around the playoffs and flirt with the top two positions. That way the fans believe this year is the year and the players always look good.

Not sure if relevant or still true but in the 80’s Lincoln City we’re running away with the old 3rd at Christmas and almost collapsed afterwards, it came out over the summer the board took a deliberate decision not to go up.
The reason given was because the costs to go up back then were too huge to bridge.
Of course this was pre TV so may not be true now.

 

relegation and promotion are just a by product of the plan. I won’t say the owners don’t care one jot either way because they clearly stand to make a profit the more successful we are but..... and it’s a big but they won’t be as bothered as we are.

 

I might be completely wrong on this, and virtually everyone in this thread are more knowledgeable than me about the club, but wasn't there initial statement when they took over that any money from player sales would be reinvested in the club?

 

I thought the squad rather than the club, but I will certainly stand corrected if that's not the case.

 

Some of us have been waiting for this for years.

Just when things may start look like it may swing this way, more creative ways to beat the system is used.

This time it's now selling the ground to the owners.

Next time it will be selling a corner flag or summat

I think our hope now is to wait for owners of club's to either get bored of spending or capitulate (ala bolton).

Thus it will be a very very long term wait/plan

 

I know when we went up to the Premiership a lot were saying that the club didn't want us to go up. I think I'm finding it difficult to trust a club where the former successful managers name is never to be mentioned. Was watching sky sports news and the caretaker manager of Hibs mentioned Paul by name and what he'd done that could be improved on.

 

the myth that “they” don’t want to go up has been a thing as long as I’ve been alive, of course the club / board (who I assume they are) wanted to go up.

 

It's a weird way of doing it. So it means if we sell a player their transfer fee and wages for what would have been the remainder of their contract goes back in to the kitty. It should also mean any cash made from now (ticket sales, merchandise etc) on is mainly surplus to add to the budget.

 

The rules will change before its enforced properly
