Missed a trick there. I'd have bet money on Lindsay frustrating us today but hes not had a good season so far in a Stoke shirt. As to Davies he's been 3rd choice since he left us.
I’ve said it before but I think it deserves repeating, I don’t think ANY of the players we sold were good enough for Championship football. Which says a lot about the BFC direction of travel since their departures imo
Maybe so, but you’ve got to admit, last season almost every team we played wasted chances that Championship sides just don’t
Well when Stoke have Federichi on the bench it’s hard to see Davies getting close to a game until Butland goes at any rate. I thought at the time Stokewas a bad move for him. Lindsay had a mare against WBA sois probably dropped
I think he needs to be starting games in Championship first.i don’t think he has started many for Brentford
The value of Davies, Lindsay and Pinnock to us as a club was greater than their value to their respective new clubs. They have struggled for starts, but with us they would have remained part of a defence well used to working together and I'm confident they wouldn't have shipped the goals our rookie defence has. I'd have gone to another club for the bigger pay packet if I were them - it's a short career. But from our point of view we should never have released them without ensuring we had competent replacements. At the bery least, why not attempt to retain Adam Jackson if we knew they were going?
I think they would have shipped fewer goals by virtue of their collective experience of working together. But as Tonjytyke said, we would have shipped goals aplenty anyway. In League 1 we gave the opposition opportunities every game to get 2 or 3 goals, but they just didn't take them. A fair few people seem to think we would have had a solid Championship team to build on had we kept those players, but I don't see it myself. If you are talking about players like Scowen and Hourihane then yes, but Davies, Lindsay, Moore? Not for me. All my opinion of course and impossible to prove, but I think at best we would have been a couple of places higher than now.
How anyone can say we would not be a better team with those 4 in it need a good head wobble. They played a full season under stendal. They knew how he/we played. They dint need to learn a new club and new system like all the new lads. It would have neen right lads go again. Everyone says oh they were crap last time in championship etc etc but under stendal last year we were best team in league one with best defense and scored more goals than most Barnsley teams ever. Pinnock was developing into a class centre half and we are so desperate for a big man up front to free woodrow up its un true. They are very heavily missed but the spreadsheet said they must go......
They have chosen relatively short term financial gain ahead of their long term careers. They would have had regular shirts and become better players staying at Barnsley for another season. A decent offer elsewhere would still have been on the table for them after that.
Moving clubs can take time to adjust to and it doesn’t work out for lots of players. It does not make them retrospectively bad in their time with us and does not mean it would not have worked out with us.
yes davies 3rd choice at stoke and i bet he is still getting paid more than he did at barnsley, we all know what you get when you pay peanuts
Davies went expecting to be second choice behind Fedirici & probably thought he could take his place but unfortunately for him Butland didn’t leave so now he’s third choice. Lindsay’s started almost every game & scored a couple from set pieces but apparently has been making a few mistakes & was one of the 6 players dropped by O’Neil for yesterday’s game
