Lucy looks after the Patrick Cryne flag at Oakwell, and also works for the club voluntarily as a Supporter Liason Officer. Lucy is sleeping out at Oakwell on Thursday night in aid of Centre Point, a charity supporting homeless people. She'll be sleeping on a concrete floor in temperatures around 2°C. She's got a bad back and shouldn't really be there, but she's not giving up. After trying to sleep there she'll be at work for a full day on Friday before finally getting some rest on Friday evening. She's a little way short of her fund raising target, so maybe some of you can put just a quid or two her way for her cause? If you can help please use the link below. Thank you. https://www.justgiving.com/fundrais...tm_medium=fundraisingpage&utm_source=Facebook
Thanks everyone, I'll pass your messages on. Some great donations in this morning from some top people on here, thank you again!
When I posted this plug this morning, Lucy was about £50 short of her target. She's now smashed it, thanks mainly to people on here, and donations are still coming in. Thanks to each and every one of you, and good luck Lucy, you've picked a fine night for it.
Well done Lucy and the others, tell em to knock on the boardroom door and wake the powers that be up ! Might need woody woodpecker though
Great work by all involved. Legit homeless should be able to sleep in our concourse any night they want to protect them more from the elements.
Can you imagine what it was like to be homeless last night? Just how cold it was and how wet. I've got a very small insight as I've been without heating or hot water for three weeks but I've got a bed that gets me off the cold floor. I know many homeless people in Barnsley. To talk to. To say hello. I give cigarettes and money daily. Cast your mind back a few years and how many homeless people did you see then? While it's honourable giving money to this campaign, what really matters is how you vote in a few weeks time. Fc*k Brexit. The social problems in this country are an embarrassment to us all. That we allow members of our society to freeze on the street shames us all. How far are you away from that predicament? I lost my job, I split up with my partner, I had a big row wi me dad. That's it, I haven't heard anything beyond that. People without a home, people feeding their family from food banks, people turning to a drug that simply wipes their life away as there's no hope, nothing will change, oblivion rather than another day hungry and cold and alone. None of this existed a few years ago. Please don't let it continue.
Update: Lucy is now at work after 2 hour's sleep at Oakwell last night. She raised £370 and is currently in 5th place in the fundraising table, just in front of Disco Devaney in 6th place. There were 52 sleepers in total, who raised well over £8000 for Centre Point. Highlight of the night was an impromptu football game which was streamed live on Facebook, viewed amongst others by Patrick Schmidt from his team hotel in Austria. Suffice to say he's not worried about losing his place just yet! Lucy's success is substantially down to people on here, so once again thanks from her to each and every one of you. Well done lass!
