It’s a stunt which will convince no one. Referring to anti islamic tories is an attempt at deflection which doesn't excuse the labour party. Its like getting told off at school and telling on someone else. Those who believe there’s an issue have now had it re enforced, those who don’t will continue to deny . Adds nothing to the debate imo. Move along, nothing to see here.
There's a huge Islamaphobia issue in the tory party as well as anti-black sentiments etc. It's well documented/highlighted. It's been highlighted by their own MP's/some members, how is that deflection? Looking into some of your posts: Look into confirmation bias and strawman arguments. If you don't like Labour, don't vote for them. We get it, you're a selfish ****... BUT do not pretend that there are not issues in the tory party. That's quite ridiculous.
I struggle with this. I'm a Labour supporter, certainly not a Corbyn one, but I find it very hard to stand here as a white CoE man with little to no interaction with Jewish people to tell them to not worry. That's not to say they should worry - I've no idea - but when thousands of Jewish people say they are then who are we to tell them to pack it in?
Do you have to be Jewish to tell a Jewish person that someone isn't antisemitic? They've become caught up in a very dangerous hysteria founded on lies and misinformation. The very top of their religion is lying to them to further his friendship with his rival. If the head of their religion is going to lie to them then yes it does take people outside to tell them to get a grip and look at facts and not propaganda
But let's not confuse the two things. The Chief Rabbi interjected yesterday. This has been going on for two years. Members of the Labour party have left because of it. I've never been subjected to racism so I'd it very uncomfortable to tell someone who is saying they're worried that they shouldn't be.
I'm not saying they shouldn't be worried about anti-Semitism in general but they do need educating that the person they are blaming is not antisemitic and if the media has created an hysteria with propaganda then yes they do need educating whether that's internally or externally. Being Jewish doesn't give them the right to make false accusations just like being black doesn't mean someone can just accuse you of being racist without evidence and they can and should be picked up on this and corrected
But white Christian people telling Jewish people that another white Christian fella isn't anti semitic despite many of them thinking so is the equivalent of a fella saying I'm not racist 'cos I've got black friends. That's my entire point - I'm not comfortable telling people how to feel about an incredibly sensitive subject because I'm not the right person to.
It's nothing like that at all. It is a person regardless if race or religion saying "you have got your facts wrong and here are the facts that Prove you wrong" Being Jewish doesn't give you free reign to call someone anti-Semitic and expect the false allegations to go unchallenged purely because you are Jewish. THAT is racist
I maybe completely blind to it, ignorant or whatever (possibly the latter) But I wouldn't be able to tell who was a Jewish bloke if he came and slapped me in the chops. And even if someone told me they were Jewish. I wouldn't know if or what I could possibly do to be racist about a Jewish person either. It just doesn't register. I'm perfectly happy to be educated about why someone would be against them, so my lack of knowledge could be updated to intercept if I came across it.
I agree with that, although I'd add two points; firstly Jewish people, or any race or religion, aren't just a single entity who act and think the same (which I'm not for a second saying you are suggesting). As in all races they are diverse individuals and groups ranging from different interpretations of faith, from orthodox through to Liberal Jewish, and have different outlooks and political leanings. And there are lots of different views within that community on this issue. And secondly, this just reiterates the importance of being measured when dealing with these issues. It is such an emotive subject that is difficult to debate with balance, reason and fact. Something completely missing in the media in the last couple of months. And whilst I don't for a second think we should tell any Jewish person what to think on this matter I do think as a society and individuals there is a place to reassure them that the terrible antisemitism that does exist is a minority view which we all reject.
Why can't we correct their false allegations though? Why is Rachel Riley allowed to spout vile lies about somebody just because she is Jewish? Should a black man be allowed to tell everyone that YOU are racist just because they're black so they know best? Shouldn't people be able to defend you with facts? It's absolute rubbish the idea that people of minorities cannot be picked up on their lies in case it offends them. We are all equal so should be able to pick each other up on falsities equally and without prejudice
I certainly think that people should correct falsehoods. I think Dyson's point is that you can't really comment in someone's perception of their experiences or how that should make them feel. Again I think that also reinforces the need to be considered in reporting because if you were Jewish at the moment and were watching the news it would be easy to conclude that anyone who has ever voted Labour is antisemitic.
I agree with that. I can't tells Jewish person they're wrong to worry about anti-Semitism or that they've never experienced it. Where I think that crosses the line is the deliberate false allegations against a specific person which I believe everyone should be able to tell them is wrong regardless of religion.
