I thought we would do well. Forget Fulham match - who else thought we would do well? If I remember right there was an air of excitement on here with all the new signings. As I’ve said - hindsight is a wonderful thing. As for sales in the summer. Davies and Lindsay wanted to go for bigger wages. Pinnock wanted to go for personal reasons to be nearer family and friends. The only sale that should not have happened IMO was Moore - because I believe he was sold because of the money offered. Directors heads were turned (?) Moore could have easily made all the difference this season - so for £3 million the club is on the verge of relegation. Another hard lesson learnt for the directors. Bring back Maurice Watkins.
I thought we’d lose more than we’d win but we’d win more than we have. prompted me to buy my first ST in 10 years which I now very much regret. Didn't expect us ti beat Fulham and was pleasantly surprised when we did. Can’t get motivated to go anymore in fact its got so bad I’d rather stay at home studying for a work related qualification tomorrow than do another 50 mile round trip to sit in the cold and be disappointed. I really did think we’d be lower half but not relegation fodder, how wrong was I.
I thought we'd stay up and surprise a few people. It was unfortunate that Radlinger and Diaby got those early injuries as I think they were Daniel's first choice. Have to say I hoped we could have kept Pinnock until January.
I will hold my hand up, I thought we would be good for a mid table finish..... now I am hoping we don't get relegated but not overly optimistic.
I thought we'd be in a relegation scrap, but nowhere near as bad as we are. Up until selling Moore, I thought we'd improved our attack quite well. Wilks and Thomas were upgrades on Hedges and Isgrove and Chaplin is an upgrade on Adebejayo. The defence was always a concern, but I think we had a right to expect better than some of the shambolic goals we've been conceding.
If somebody has the time to search back amongst the posts.. I seem to recall a prediction for the season thread.... Been done on here... I think I predicted top half finish... Hooked reeled in and truly landed by Conway and his lies
I still look back at all the Moore lindsey and pinnock were rubbish posts and we will be loads better without them garbage. Knew selling moore would cripple us in final 3rd he was such a great outlet. The timing was terrible too. At least most of the old club men who rubbished them seem to come round to what a terrible decision it was to sell all 3.....
I had no issue about the player sales. Sad to see Pinnock go. But was expecting us to recruit sensibly. We didn’t. Nothing wrong with the lads we signed, but there should have been some proven quality alongside them. Fulham was a shock but Carlisle a hint. We’ve actually been better than I expected going forward, but defensively I expected better than the shambles we see every week. I disagreed with Stendel’s departure and feared the kind of replacement we’ve ended up with. One of my posts actually said “someone random from Austria or something”. I wanted Nathan Jones. The only thing that differs me from the majority is my lack of slagging off the board and saying I’m not going anymore. I don’t see how anything that’s happened warrants that. But there you go.
How do you define doing well? Promotion? Playoffs? Comfortable mid table? Staying up? It's ok now saying people are now criticising the club were positive about the signings at the time, but kieffer Moore was sold at the 11th hour plus 59 minutes. As you say, he could have made a difference this season, but most fans were making their predictions based on having him around, so some can be excused for changing their minds.
Yeah, but you're a super fan aren't you? You think you're more clever than the rest of us and above any negative thoughts. When it gets too much for you you threaten to stop posting, or bugger off come back under a different user name.
I do. I use it regularly. Problem must be at your end. Why not say what you've got to say on here? That's what it's for.
I'll pass thanks.if we all inboxed people we had conflicting opinions with, there'd be no time for posting on threads.
I put £500 on us to get relegated at 3/1. I hoped we would be alright but in reality we had sold the spine of the team and replaced with untried and untested youth players. Love Barnsley hate the new regime.
I thought we’d be ok tbh. I thought we’d win some we shouldn’t and lose some we shouldn’t but finish bottom half but safe . After first game I thought maybe half way but we seemed to go backwards after that .
That’s fine. We actually know each other hence the request. But you’re right. You asked people for opinions and when I gave mine you didn’t try and debate you just got daft. If only you knew. As I say, my messages are open.
I thought we'd struggle but hoped, rather than expected, to be above the bottom 3. But the scale of our inability to compete is beyond what I anticipated. End of May, looking forward to the season, Stendel in charge, replace Lindsay and Davies and just have a go at the division making use of the momentum from last season and a confident squad. August - gutted to see Moore leave, willing to give the new signings some slack, expected a beating by Fulham, impressed on the first day. Luton game onwards, resigned to relegation tbh. Very much reminded me of the start of our relegation season under Flitcroft/Wilson. We've tried to recruit like this, at Championship level, for 7 years or so, since appointing Hill. Only time we've competed we'll is under Hecky until the firesale, and to be balanced, under Hill for a couple of months. You'd think the penny would have dropped after two relegation seasons in 5 years, we are heading back to square one again. Wilson and Johnson did bring in some decent players at League One level, but by and large the sides relegated were poor, and full of poor players (at this level). I love my club, love the lads I go to the games with. But I'm working in Leeds until 1230 tomorrow, still going to the match, but if I'd been asked to work until 5, I'd have taken the overtime without a second thought. What is football without a tangible dream of competing and succeeding? What is football without any hope or expectation or pre match butterflies? What is football without any connection between the stands and those in the club? I can't answer my own questions, but it's not the game, or club, I fell for 39 years ago.
