like the old saying that Refs never gave a pen against Man United at Old Trafford when Fergy was in charge,if so we should be complaining, get it out there in media and on Quest, my personal view is Refs are now subconsciously in the mindset to not give us a penalty before a game even begins
As per my comment on the 'Quest thread' I am not usually a conspiracy theorist but... When, as was confirmed, we have not been awarded a penaly at Oakwell fo over 3 years !!! and yet had quite a few awarded against us in that time something is definitely amiss. The law of averages dictates we must have had several penalty incidents in our favour that have been ignored by referees.
The stats showing how many penalties we get at Oakwell would support the theory that we just don't get them. Isn't it something like 17 penalties awarded against us at Oakwell since we last had one? And let's be honest there have been several definite penalties waved away in that time. I don't think there is a conspiracy I just think we get some very poor refs more often than not.
It looked a stonewall penalty at the time for handball and after seeing it back on the ten minutes of Sky highlights it was as clear as I first thought. The ref having a bottle job could have cost us. Thankfully it didn't.
Most blatant penalty not given at Oakwell must be the one against Birmingham in 2012 about 25 seconds in ref has clear sight of it and waves it away
Is it just us though or is there some kind of subconscious away team bias creeping into the game? I only watch footie at Oakwell, so can't get a feel for other games, but imagine you're a ref and every incident in the away team's box is met with a huge cry of "Penalty!" from thousands of home fans. Even the ones that are clearly nowhere near a penalty. Maybe over time you subconsciously toughen up against home teams? Just thinking out loud... call me stupid, I probably am.
We’re such a statistical outlier against every other team in the league over the last three years that you have to consider that it’s not just bad luck. And yes I’m aware how ridiculous that sounds.
Absolute lunatic behaviour in this thread. Yes, the FA are determined to put an end to us as a club and the way they are doing that is by only sporadically awarding us penalties. It would be the perfect crime if it wasn’t for all these detectives busting the case wide open. Penalties are a response to a match event, not something that should be occurring every X minutes of game time.
I dont believe they are doing deliberately (the refs) but the stats dont lie. When you look our attacking play last seasons and most shots etc etc...i feel sometimes players (this is where experience comes in) "invite the challange" and it looks more like a foul. Charlton athletic are fantastic at it and i think they are given a few. Going back to our predicement, i would absolutely do "a fergy" and let it be known amongst the media how long it is etc and hope some subliminal message gets into the officials head, its no different to old pros, bending the refs ear all match.
In 17/18 6 teams got four penalties, after that the next popular amount was 3 which included us. Last season in league 1 five teams got 7 penalties, after that the next popular amount was 3 which included us. Obviously this season we haven't had one. Note: Other amounts of penalties also have the same amount of clubs in them for example 2 penalties was the same as 3 etc
Saturdays ref only given 1 penalty so far this season, we need Oliver Langford he given 11 out, surely he is our man
At home? It might be my age and it probably is, but I honestly can't remember a penalty at home in the last couple of seasons. I remember several given against us and thought it was more than six. I think the most frustrating thing is the blatant penalties that are just waved away - this probably distorts the memories of many fans.
